Why don't you consider posting a list of what you're looking for & let us all send you a quote? There are a lot of "seasoned" backpackers here who, I'm sure, have stuff just taking up room & collecting dust! (and yes, I was just speaking with my wife:(”

other idea: meet people in your area, clubs, orgs, college classes etc who backpack and then borrow gear from them when you go...
also try renting to see what you like, what fits you best.
then break the bank :-)”

We have a couple very active groups here in Northern CA who have Yahoo groups... do a search & I'll bet you'll find some in PA also. Great for trip planning & other things as well as "experienced gear" exchanges! Backpacking really is an inexpensive hobby/sport, done properly.”
