Let's just say I didn't see any AL State Police and drove like someone that isn't worried about a ticket.

To link a thread, go to the Trip Page for that trip and start a thread from that trip page. Make sure you check the show in Trail Talk button.

Ok, so I only skimmed the thread, but from what I gather, Stovestomper popped Deore's cherry.

Is that close enough?

I'll check out the pics in a bit. It was nice to finally meet DDX and to see SS again.

We made it to the truck by 12 or so. I never say Scully or Goose.

Skully and Goose are "explained" in the photos.

Nice shots! I was starting to wonder if DH was on the trip, or just dropped his boy off. But then lo and behold, DH showed up in a photo. :-)

Glad you guys had great fun. Spectacular scenery. Didn't know Alabama had that.

I know just the spot where SS was at the overlook.

The rock formation was an old chimney.

liz - that's my right arm in the 2nd picture of Reece.

I thought that pile of rocks looked like a tairn (sp) that was an old trail marker of sorts.

I didn't have a picture of DH so I had to add that one of him kneeling just so people could see he didn't just drop his kid off.

On the opposite side of the rocks you can tell where it recesses like a chimney. I got a pic of Reece standing there. I'll link it later today.

sarbar - the picture you saw was when I was repacking from the first sight. They took my son to the next camp while I packed. He used his school pack to carry his own sleeping bag and toys.

6 next month.

Nope, 2200 or so is as big as it gets in Bama. I can't recall the elevation of Cheaha, but that's the tallest one. sarbar - are you trying to tell us it's all about size? DDX was afraid you'd draw that conclusion. He talked about it at the campfire.

The little fellow hiked in 2 miles and back out 2 miles. I had guessed we'd go about 1 mph and that's pretty much what we did. He enjoyed crawling under and over the blowdowns.

My little backpackers are all grown up, mostly.

Since they have gotten bigger my pack has gotten lighter.

I can imagine. Mine went from 25#'s to 50#'s in a snap. It'll go back down as he gets bigger and as I get gear for him. For example, I don't have a 20* kids bag so I put him in his kiddie bag and my 20* bag. That left me without a 20* bag so I took my 40* down quilt and a 50* bag I started with. I hauled in 3 bags and he carried 1.
