Goto Trip Page: April Fools Weekend on the Mid-State Trail

April Fools Weekend Trip
this will be a fun trip on a tough but rewarding section of the mid-state trail, from PA 326 to Everitt, PA.

I'll post more details as they come in. The hike itself will be done as a dayhike and we will car camp at one of the many state parks within close proximity. There will be a planned activity for Sunday morning and early afternoon as well.

Please sign up if you're interested, and feel free to get involved in the planning of the trip!

here is a taste test of what we will be encountering on this hike, rockwise! The views will more than make up for the abuse we get from the famous PA rocks!

16 miles of that will make for a long day, and some sore feet lol!

It is interesting... It will be a very nice trek and a good time in camp! Instead of eating trail food, we will go out to eat for a post hike dinner, then come back and camp the night away! I'm not sure yet what we will do Sunday morning, but I'd like to plan something fun that day as well.

NG, what are you doing this weekend? I want to go bp'g and I'm eyeing a section of the MST from Little Juniata NA to Penn Roosevelt State Park. I'm not sure what the mileage is yet, but it doesn't look like much over 20 miles.

We'll Camp in Trough Creek State Park and Sunday we can do another dayhike on the Terrace Mountain Trail, which offers views of Lake Rayestown.

trough creek is a bit north of the section you're hiking. great park though, many cool trails with cliffs, views, balanced rock, ice mine, etc. no showers at the park. terrace mountain trail is ok, not as scenic as mid state.

in the spirit of april fools..
I should say that there are absolutely no rocks on this trail and that it is a paved path with park benches and beautiful girls handing out beverages every quarter mile.

if you like the North Fork Mountain Trail in West Virginia (which is a spectacular trail), then you'll like this section of trail. The views and vistas along Tussey Mountain have been compared to those on the North Fork Mountain Trail (according to the guide book).

This weekend
ENS--I'd love to get out but unfortunately I have to work this weekend and next; however, I get comp time when I work weekends. I feel a long weekend coming on in early February. Neville is eyeing a stretch of the Pinchot Trail 2/11-12 . . .

I have Friday March 31st off from work and the same weekend (as this trip) the KTA is planning on doing trail maintenance on the Link Trail. I plan on joining in on the trail maintenance on Friday March 31st. I hike a lot of PA's trails, this is a chance to give back a little. Food will be provided, as well as a place to camp that Friday night. IF you're interested, please let me know.

Food is Dutch treat on the weekend trips, it's provided on the week-long ones. Breakfast IS provided at the Link trail care. Beer and whiskey is usually Dutch treat but if you prove yourself you can mooch on the second night. :)

well, either way, I am looking forward to being there that Friday with lots of elbow grease and ready to help make the Link Trail the premier PA trail it's meant to be! I can't wait to get dirty!

I'd make the weekend out of it, but I plan on doing some hiking on Saturday on the midstate trail. Maybe on Sunday, I can round up the group and see if they want to come back and do some work.

I plan to take the 16 mile stretch of trail that this hike will traverse in stride and enjoy it. The scenery along the way is supposed to be comparable to that of the North Fork Mountain Trail.

My eyes might hurt, looking at NG in a skirt! lol. This hike is in my backyard so I'm planning on being there. My first TT hike. Some friends have a house near the lake, about 15 minutes from the campground. I'll see if it's available for an after-hike cookout.

EarthNsky: Looking at the Trough
Creek state parks web site it seems they only allow camping from the second friday in April to mid Dec. Is this correct or am I looking in the wrong section.

thanks for the heads up Lostsoul! I see that now. I've done some research and found a park closer that is in MD. It's called Rocky Gap State Park. I think this will be a good place to camp for the trip.
