I'd like to do a hike this weekend. Not sure where, but a trail I haven't been on yet would be super swell. The other required criteria is that I want to stay with in a 3 hour radius of where I live, so that pretty much means anywhere in PA, MD AT, Shenandoah NP or NJ AT.

I just bought the Mid-State Trail guide and mapset and I'm very interested in hiking somewhere on the Mid-State Trail. I'd like to hike in the Seven Mountains Region, since I've never hiked there before and it seems really cool.

The section from Lil Juniata Water Gap to Penn Roosevelt SP or the Greenwood Spur and then to Greenwood Furnace SP looks particularly interesting, but those would both be about 36 mile hikes. That would be a lot of hiking in the winter with limited daylight for two days.

So I am up for ideas.

I'll know tomorrow if Pennsy can go. I'm not sure he'll want to tackle my 36-mile Mid-State Trail plan when it gets dark before 6 though.

I'd really love to do that trip, but I have to work on Friday.

Thanks for the offer! Linnville seems like a super cool spot and I hope to see it soon. Hope you guys have a great time there!

haha - I just started jogging again this week. One mile - 11 minutes. Pathetic. That's what knee surgery will do to you. Why don't you go crash, I'll buy you some beers when you get back.

36 miles is a Dawdle!

No it isn't...it's a very slow, painful death!"

lol JS!

C'mon CB, if you liked the rocks on the AT in PA, you'll love Mid-State Trail! The rocks on the MST are worse than the AT, but the trail is far more remote, higher in elevation and more rugged, plus the vistas are far greater than those on the AT.

I'd love to Gem, there is quite a bit of snow up there right now and the trees are covered and it looks really pretty, but I only have two days to work with.

I got the Mid-State trail and the Seven Mountains (something intriguing about the sound of Seven Mountains) on my brain right now.

yes you have gem! You're a trooper. That time you drove all the way up to PA to hike that overnight rocky section of the AT was beyond trooperish.

I only have Saturday and Sunday off to backpack this weekend, so I can't venture too far from home. Plus next week I am going to Sunday River, so I have to be sparing on the $$.

I miss you though and haven't seen you since we busted our humps on the Loyalsock trail last summer! We need to do a hike again soon!

ENS, you need to come to Big Bend and do the Basin hikes and the desert run below South Rim.

ENS, would love to but I already have plans for Saturday. Not to mention that 36 miles in 2 days would put me in the hospital.

I got a dinner to go to on saturday at 7:00pm, so the most I could do is a friday nighter and out early enough on saturday to make it in time. So if you cant make the Mid State thing happen and wanna do something local, mabey the AT in NJ, let me know.
