Goto Trip Page: What's A Little Snow And Ice Among Friends?

Hi folks. I uploaded a roll of pictures to a picture album. The link appears to be: http://www.thebackpacker.com/pictures/album/j1gghal2.php

If you go to the trip itself, both my pictures, and creakyknees' pictures are listed:
http://www.thebackpacker.com/trips/trip/832.php

I could use your help if you could? I'm having some trouble identifying some of the people in my pictures -- so if you happen to know WHO they are, and happen to know something INTERESTING about them, or just have a good CAPTION for the picture? I'd really really appreciate it.

I know it's been forever, but I'm going to do my best to write up a TR and post it to a webpage. I just have been buried ever since the holidays, and have not had a chance to do it -- and still would like to.

Thanks in advance.

By the way?.. My favorite picture HAS to be this (#10 of 28) one:

(And some of you know why.)

It’s the odd events that stay with you long after they occur. The words spoken - the sounds and images – an eternal loop of internal media playing on your subconscious.

Hello, we’re the Christians from Indiana,” he exclaimed.

I couldn’t decide if he meant the family of “John and Marie” Christian, or if he meant the religious background of the four people standing in front of the shelter. He asked me if this was Spence Field, and I told him that he was at Russell Field.

Oh, I thought we had made it to Spence Field. How much further is it, and in what direction?

A dad, his two daughters, and a son – inappropriately dressed for the winter, it’s already three in the afternoon, and they don’t even realize the danger they are in. I explained to them that Spence Field was about three miles down the path. “Do you realize in about two hours that’s its going to be dark? Do you have headlamps?

The dad said that he had a flashlight. “Do you realize that a winter storm is headed this way? Besides being dark, it’s going to sleet and cover this mountain with ice, not to mention it will be really cold in a few hours too.

I looked at the four of them standing there in their matching auburn sweatshirts, jeans, and tennis shoes, and asked if it would be all right to take a picture of the four of them.

I really fear for your safety to be honest. I don’t want anything bad to happen to you all, but at least I’ll have a picture of you if I read about you in the paper tomorrow. Please turn around now, and get off this mountain.

they must have made it down since there was no story of their bodies being found

The Auburn sweatshirts explain the whole ordeal!

TD - don't fear, check out the knife on dads hip, they'll be safe. He can cut down trees and build a fahhhr.

It was one of those bizarre moments I'll never forget Eddy/John. They were completely oblivious to the possible hazards looming in their immediate future.

I'm trying to write up the rest of my trip report, but that event was still VERY clear in my mind.

Office moto: If you're gonna be stupid, you'd better be tough.

It seems to apply to all facets of life.

Night came, and so did the predicted winter storm. Hail – huge round orbs slamming against the tin room of the shelter – and it was deafening.

For what seemed to be time without end, the sound was louder than any of us could speak over comfortably. The next morning the trails were a solid sheet of ice. I was quite glad to have crampons with me!
