Gojo, I am thinking World War I and II pretty much cleared the debt with France. AND lets not forget they were much less involved (until the end when we were winning) than they like to admit.

haha = true enough about inland/rurual florida. The part I lived in - Port St. Lucie and Fort Pierce (hardly urban areas, albeit coastal) were really just far flung New York suburbs.

i just heard about the "half backs" in SC/NC
it's all the northern retiree's from florida that have gone half way back home after the hurricanes, and are now setting up the carolina's as the new blue haired jewish/ny'er retreat

Belle Glade?
Belle Glade was the big city compared to Pahokee (birthplace of Mel Tillis) and Canal Point.

I believe I might even still have my "Loxahatchee - Love it and Leave it alone" t-shirt somewhere around here.

'Course Loxahatchee is a far cry from what it was when I grew up around there. It wasn't left alone, so I left.

South Florida is not even a shell of what it was, and what it is now is best bulldozed.

There's no place more southern than the Delta. My experience in East Tennessee suggests it's really not all that southern. Lots of Yankee sympathizers over there...it was a hotbed of Union loyalists during the war. Still is.

Problem with the Delta is there's no place to backpack. You can spend days hanging out in blues and barbeque joints, but there ain't no where decent to set up your Clip Flashlight.

That's all of MS except in deep winter, karma.
The thing to do is kayak or do other water sports.

Yeah, I used to live in Jackson,MS. Although I will say the barrier islands (or what's left of them) are great destinations in the fall and winter.
