You only have to go to one true abuse case with a baby to develop a deep dislike for these types.

I have been on one, we had a 9 month old little girl...she was in the fetal position and burned on the feet, lower legs, and buttocks from being dipped in SCALDING water to make her shut up.

Yolanda got 5 years...oh and she spit out one while she was in there (two years after going in)...I say give them the choice, sterilize them or execute them.”

“Well you have the classic case, rich college boys and a poor "entertainer"....the thing about these type of cases is that I feel it dilutes the impact of the RAPE allegation.

You know we get it drilled into our heads to only pursue cases we are dead sure of. I have been involved in too many cases where an officer was TRYING TO MAKE A CASE and he lost his objectivity. There have been quite a few cases where I have to remember that I work for the Citizens and the person I am planning to accuse is also a Citizen. It can be a real tough case when you get a typically HORRIBLE scenario with media attention and everything. There are the emotions that can overwhelm you and make you pursue "Case building" rather than "Fact collection".”

“Moms, kids arrested in R.I. school brawl

Two mothers and their 13-year-old daughters were arrested after police say one woman drove her already suspended daughter to school to fight a teenage rival.

Ana Rivera, 44, and Maribel Santiago, 34, are scheduled to be arraigned Thursday on a charge of simple assault in connection with Monday's fight. Their daughters and two other 13-year-old girls were charged with disorderly conduct and their cases were turned over to the Juvenile Detective Division.

Rivera allegedly drove her daughter to Woonsocket Middle School so she could fight Santiago's daughter.

Police reports say the girls began feuding two weeks ago and began fighting outside the school on Monday. At one point, the melee involved all four girls, both mothers and a teacher, according to police.

Authorities said a teacher tried to break up the fight and was hit by Santiago.

Santiago and Rivera were released on $1,000 bail Monday evening, but Detective Lt. Timothy Paul said the department intends to notify the state Department of Children, Youth and Families about Rivera's case.

Santiago, reached at home Wednesday, said she went to the school to pick up her daughter because of recent threats. She said she apologized to the school's principal and was only trying to protect her daughter. Her daughter was suspended from school for 10 days after the fight.

"I just wanted to make sure my daughter stayed out of trouble," Santiago said.

Rivera could not be reached for comment and it was unclear if she has an attorney.

Seventeen-year-old Clarence Johnson lost a fistfight, and he walked away. Then he went to his mother's apartment, police said, where she kept a home with cocaine, a gun and a picture of her young son smiling, holding a pistol and a wad of cash.

His mother sent him back out with the gun, police said, and clear instructions: Get revenge.

Johnson did as he was told, police said, getting a ride from a friend to the corner of Simon Bolivar and Clio streets in Central City, where he waited for the boy who had beaten him up to come out of a corner po-boy shop. When the teen emerged, Johnson lit him up with several gunshots, leaving 17-year-old Robert Dawson lying dead near a street corner.

Dawson had returned to New Orleans just four hours earlier from Katrina-induced exile in Dallas.

Johnson remained at large Thursday, while his mother, Vanessa Johnson, 44, was in jail on second-degree murder charges after being picked up by police the night before at her apartment in the 2500 block of Erato Street, part of the Guste public housing development.

Police said Vanessa Johnson played a principal part in the murder, in a disturbing scenario that police said underscores their inability to prevent killings in a street culture that embraces deadly retaliation.

"No police department can make up for that degree of deficient parenting," police spokesman Sgt. Joe Narcisse said. "Even with our best-laid plans, these type of incidents cause us great pause. What more can a department do to prevent these type of incidents?"

Robert Dawson and his mother spent 10 hours on a bus from Dallas on Wednesday and returned to their hometown about 3:30 p.m., relatives said. Four hours later, Dawson became the city's 21st murder victim of 2007.

Late in the morning Thursday, his mother, Dorothy Dawson, 54, milled around the site of her son's murder, near the pool of his dried blood, trading hugs and condolences with friends. She said she had health problems, and can't read or write. Her son had been her caretaker. She described a somewhat shy boy who gave one-word answers and loved sports. The youngest of three children, Robert Dawson was the man of a single-parent house.

"He handled my business, made sure I got my medicine and paid my bills," his mother said. "He took good care of me."”

19 years of Terror as a Foster parent....ofcourse this means for 19 years some government cog has not been doing their job.

So what is a fitting punishment. Sorry but in this case there is NO such thing as cruel and unusual. It should be brutal, and long term. The old practice of "breaking the subject on the wheel" comes to mind.

The sad thing is I know many foster families who give excellent care to their children. Sadly I know one who had a child who routinely called Children Services to report "abuse". There needs to be a happy middle ground....”

TAYLOR, Michigan (AP) -- A 33-year-old woman was arraigned Sunday on charges alleging she offered to let an undercover investigator take pornographic photos of her 7-year-old daughter and have sex with the girl, authorities said.

The woman was arrested Friday after taking the girl to a hotel in Romulus, near Detroit Metropolitan Airport, where she had agreed to meet the investigator, the Wayne County sheriff's department said.

A not guilty plea was entered on behalf of the woman, who wasn't represented by a lawyer at the arraignment, department spokesman John Roach said. She was held in lieu of $1 million bail, and a preliminary examination was scheduled for April 12.

Authorities said the woman offered to let the investigator take the photos for a fee and, when she met with him, discussed being paid in exchange for sex with the child, the Detroit Free Press reported. (Watch what police found in the car )

"This is truly a horrifying case," Sheriff Warren Evans said in a statement. "To think that a woman would offer up her own daughter in this way impossible to comprehend."

The girl and her four siblings, ages 12, 11, 9 and 6, all were in protective custody, Roach said.

The name of the woman, who lives in this Detroit suburb, wasn't being released to avoid identifying the child, the sheriff's department said.

She faced five charges, including child sexually abusive behavior, illegal use of the Internet for child sexually abusive actions or materials and distribution of child sexually abusive material, Roach said.

She also was charged with prostitution, since the department said she propositioned the investigator herself. The department said the woman advertised herself online as a prostitute.

If convicted, she could get up 20 years in prison.”

A Sheboygan woman shot her 8-year-old daughter in the leg with a BB gun to win a $1 bet with her boyfriend, authorities said Friday.

Angelique R. Vandeberg, 28, now faces up to three years in prison on a felony count of intentional child abuse issued Friday. Vandeberg's daughter, a city elementary school student, told police her mother and the mother's boyfriend were drinking heavily before the shooting, which occurred April 26 or 27, according to a criminal complaint.

"In my time as a prosecutor I've seen alcohol influence people to do some strange things," said Sheboygan County District Attorney Joe DeCecco. "When people are not in the state of mind to think right, you get strange things happening."

The girl said the shot initially hurt so much she was unable to walk, the complaint said.
