Saw this in KMart (Not Wal-Mart) today.
Even better that the Wal-Mart Grease Pot as the top edge lip is rolled OUTWARD rather than inward like the Wal-Mart version.
The brand is Stanco.

$6 and it holds a little more than 1 quart of water.
3.9 oz for the Pot and Lid (remove lid knob for 0.2 oz less)
Strainer is 1.0 oz but you do not need to carry that part.
Inside dim. are 3 & 1/16" high and 5 & 3/8" in Dia.

I wonder if you could steam some fresh veggies in that strainer? If you can 1 oz would be worth it

The strainer is 11/16" so small veggies might work.

It cracks me up what people will pay to buy some ultralight titanium pot, when a simple walk through your local kmart or walmart reveals an abundance of cheap lightweight alternatives.

Stovey's been slummin' again. :-) (but at LEAST it was not Wal-Mart!!!!!!)

hehehee, good find. In the pots and pans section, eh? (you would never find me there otherwise!! LOL)

Nice find.

What's the issue with the rolled edge inward? No way to attach a handle?

I still use my greasepot from time to time.

It was in the section near the canning jars, not with the pots and pans.

The inward rolled edge catches water and food bits in the classic Wal-Mart version.
The outward rolled edge is what you normally see on a pot or the antigravity gear 3 cup pot.

Ahh, I have that trouble with mine too. You've seen my pot that looks like an anti-gravity gear pot. My complaint with it is that the bottom is so slippery that it's tough to stay stable on the pocket rocket.

Is That Aluminum??
What's that to the left of the barcode??

Made In China, perhaps??

I just sold some old SIGG spun aluminum pots from the '70s on Ebay.
The dude paid $100+!!
They were 3.5 & 2 liter pots with nicely fitted lids and three little plates.
They were all bought separately and nest together.

I'm happily scratchin' my head.

I don't do aluminum any more.

It's just like those people you see cruising around the parking lot for 15 minutes while looking for a close spot, when there are several further spots open and available.

I don't even know where the "closest" Kmart is. WalMart is 20-30minutes away and I have no reason to shop there.

I go to the 'burbs for one reason only, 15 minutes away - REI

Urban Myth, people..........
Myth 3: Drinking out of aluminum cans or cooking in aluminum pots and pans can lead to Alzheimer’s disease.

Reality: Based on current research, getting rid of aluminum cans, pots, and pans will not protect you from Alzheimer’s disease. The exact role (if any) of aluminum in Alzheimer’s disease is still being researched and debated. However, most researchers believe that not enough evidence exists to consider aluminum a risk factor for Alzheimer’s or a cause of dementia.

I recommend wrapping your aluminum pot in lead foil before cooking with it, just in case.

Why take the chance..........
Over the last few years, there has been concern about the exposures resulting from leaching of aluminum from cookware and beverage cans. However, as a general rule, this contributes a relatively small amount to the total daily intake. Aluminum beverage cans are usually coated with a polymer to minimize such leaching. Leaching from aluminum cookware becomes potentially significant only when cooking highly basic or acidic foods. For example, in one study, tomato sauce cooked in aluminum pans was found to accumulate 3-6 mg aluminum per 100 g serving.

Why take the chance indeed.

Stainless steel is safe the cook in and it makes a great helmet to keep out gamma rays in the event of a cosmic shower......

Bearmagnet, is there an REI IN D.C.??
15 minutes afoot or as the crow flies...??

The main problems HPM had with his greasepot setup is that it's so flimsy you can crush it in your pack even when being very careful, and the lip bends and splits very easily. The aluminum alloy used was very brittle stuff. In other words- it was crap.

The closest one to me is over 3 hours away. Needless to say, I've never been to an REI. As for Aluminum, I love my anodized aluminum teapot. It weighs about the same as Ti for over half the price.

well..there is an Academy about 8 minutes away, and they usually have some good stuff.....like my Kelty lightyear 25 degree bag for 125.00...and other stuff like my Merrel hiking shoes.....so they are starting to get the good stuff in from time to time, but you have to check often cause they usually get it in and its gone. My Kelty bag was the last one, hanging on the display rack so I got it for 10% off.....

treebait, I have never used a greasepot, but I have seen them in walmart and I can see why you would say they are flimsy. On the other hand, there are a lot of long distance hikers who use the greasepot. Its seems to be very popular with AT thruhikers who use their cookpost much more than I. Maybe they just buy a lot of them and treat them as disposable pots.

I've had mine for probably 3 years. It's pretty beat up, but that's what I like about it. Forgot the pot scrubber? Who cares, grab a handful of sand and rub the heck out of the inside of it til clean.

This is a welcome post. I have the WalMart grease pot but because of the roll on the lip I only use it for boiling water.

I use a grease pot. I mostly eat freezer bag meals so the lip is not an issue. I've never had trouble with it being flimsy either. I pack my pocket rocket, spoon, lighter etc. inside and then put in a plastic sinch bag from an old cookset.

I do sometimes wish it had a handle. i just grab the side with a glove or hanky etc. What do others do?

fold a bandana 4 times (16 layers of cloth)to make a strap, wrap strap around grease pot holding it onto the pot with your index fingers and thumbs, lift pot up while maintaining pressure through the folded bandana on four points

15 minutes to drive. Sorry. The one in sven Corners. I suppose the two inside the Beltway in MD are almost as close. Not sure about the one further out in N.VA.

Hudson Trails is right inside DC on mEtro Red line.

I got a nice Snowpeak ti pot but the thing is strictly for boil and bag trips. I can't fit enough in it to cook your basic two cup dinner.
