Janus/Devold Wool Socks
Looking for anyone who has new or used (good condition) Janus and/or Devold wool socks for sale. Size large or ex-large. Esp. interested in ragg-style socks. Knee-length as well as crew and OTC. Thanks!

Wool Socks
Used because over the years both companies have cheapened their wool socks--the older ones were heavier weight and lasted for a long time. Also, Janus (Norway) socks are usually 100% wool, rare to find in today's stores. The Devold company (Norway) made a knee-high 80% wool sock that was unbeatable in durability and warmth. (I don't like Thorlos or so-called Smartwool brand socks.) Just call me an old fuddy-duddy but I prefer thick, close-to-100% wool socks to what is available today.

I'm an old fuddy-duddy too, but I do like Thorlo's. Wool has probably saved my life decades ago, but I much prefer the synthetic alternatives of today now.

Thorlo Expedition Socks the warmest, most comforatable and longest lasting I've ever had. Tested in Fairbanks.

Sorry, I'm still using my ragg-style socks. Bought two pair in Sundsvall, Sweden, in December, 1955. Lost one pair, but the other still serves me well while backpacking. I do need to sew up some holes cut by my toenails.

Wool Socks
Male or female socks!? I think Janus/Devold socks are gender neutral. I know *lots* of folks prefer "the synthetic alternatives of today" (they completely dominate the market these days so obviously they're appealing to somebody) and I respect other people's choices. As for me, though, I've tried them and they don't measure up IMHO. Thick wool with nylon reinforced heels and toes still rule!

Wal-Mart is carrying...
the woolrich brand of Smart Wools at half the price and it is an awsome sock. They are offered singly and in 2 packs.

I bought some of those a couple of years ago, Stikmon. They were okay, but I didn't think they fit as snug or hold up as well as smartwool.
