This was the place a lot of White Mountain hiking and backpacking trips ended. It's a pity - it had good chow and good beer. It was on Rt. 302 near the Twin Mountains.

Ironically it was where I had my last meal (after a great day snowshoeing) before my house burned.

I think that was where we ate after Artex finished his NH 4000'ers. That's too bad. I hope the owner rebuilds.

Artex does like the place. I was planning on sending him a 25 dollar certificate to the place before I left for the Long Trail (because it was set to expire while I was on the trail) - I got caught up in such a mad rush to cash the bus in time to meet my ride that I forgot to mail it and it expired unused.

I only remember that it was closed the day I walked through:(

it sucks when a good landmark restaurant goes away...there was a greasy spoon in my home town called Gerth's that had been there since 1912...my grandparents actually went on their first date there...i used to go to it all the time for lunch when i was in high school...it burnt down too and the owners were old and their kids weren't interested in running it so they didn't rebuild...thinking back, i'm surprise it didn't burn years ago, the thing was coated in 80 years of grease

Were these new owners?

It was for sale a few months ago and if they hadn't sold maybe they will not rebuild. Or...

nah, no one would do that.

It was a great place to go and meet up after hiking and we had the after get-together for the "Flags on the 48" there a couple of times. I would have gone there when I finished the 48 but I think it was 2:00 am :)

I may have actually eaten there. Certainly been in that neck of the woods any number of times, not a lot lately though, most recently 6 years ago.

The news story says they plan to rebuild.

Pepsi, I had the same speculation along with another possibility - it could be related to repair and renovation which increases the risk of accidental fires.

I saw it on the news tonight. The owners indicated that it is their intention to rebuild.

I've eaten there a few times while staying in the Twin Mountain area. Shame.

I do hope they rebuild. It can't be the same, building codes alone wouldn't allow that, but it could still be a good place to meet up at the end of a trip.

I had forgotten that I came close to meeting Pedxing there once but I was coming from Bondcliff and when I got there he had just left.
