Props to Savage Gulf
I gotta give my props to the Rangers and other staff at Savage Gulf. I spent last weekend there and it was great. I've been there numerous times, but this weekend renewed my opinion of the park as one of the cleanest and best managed in the SE. Keep it up, and for those of you who have yet to visit...GO! But if you expect to get Hobbs cabin you better hike in at 4 in the morning, cause it's a very popular weekend destination. We left at 6 and were third to arrive! Although we had two very generous men give up their spots for our group on Saturday night. Which was good cause the rain came down around 2 in the morning something fierce!

One of my favorite places indeed! There is nothing like wandering through the bottom of the gulf.

I had a great time there and the ranges focus on safety was really remarkable.

All of South Cumberland Recreation Area is well maintained and cared for by the Rangers. I think that each of the Rangers there know that they are part of something special, being Tennessee's only real wilderness state park, and they all seem to enjoy their jobs and the park itself as much if not more than its visitors.

When I stopped by the Ranger Station and met Embear's brother, I made sure to compliment the Rangers we had met on our trip and compliment what a great job that he and the other Rangers do.

By the way, http://www.friendsofscsra.org/
is the link to the Friend's Organization that also does a lot of good things for the park, and they also keep you informed about any special events or issues related to South Cumberland, such as the constant encroachment of development that threatens the future of our wilderness experience in our park.

Currahee, maybe you could work something out with Embear's brother and they could do a Ranger evacuation training or something; but just for practice they could carry you in and out:)
