Car Camping StoveView MessagesViewing posts 1 to 19 of 19 messages posted.
“I know i know, its car camping but for a 10 day car camping trip i want to be able to cook food faster and more of it, i will be cooking for 6 so i want to have something besides my pocket rocket. So the question is what should i get. I do a fair about of car camp so i would like something that will last, i know wal-mart has an ozark trail two burner stove for under 30 and for like 45 they have a coleman. both of which say they have 10,000 btu's a burner. I can also get a 10,000 per burner coleman stove off of ebay for 35 but it says may have missing pieace. I'm sure i can get the pieaces replaced but i don't know. Would you just pay the money for the new coleman or get on of the cheaper ones that might not work as good?” 4:40:30 PM 2/01/06 “I have a coleman, if you are going to be using it a bit it would be good to get the new one.” 4:44:37 PM 2/01/06 “If you get an LP stove I highly recommend getting a small 5lb or 10lb tank. It will last longer than the small green tanks, you can get it refilled, and it has a shutoff valve so you won’t waist as much gas.” 4:49:00 PM 2/01/06 “I have a 2 burner Coleman that uses the small cylinders. It works fine. I think Academy Sports ahs the Colemans for closer to 30 or so. I'd pop for the extra 15 to avoid the Ozark Trail. I love car camping, btw.” 5:08:43 PM 2/01/06 “i love my coleman. I've had it for @6 yrs.” 5:27:18 PM 2/01/06 “I have a Coleman 2 burner multi-fuel stove. Works like a champ. Just like cooking at home. ;)” 6:24:19 PM 2/01/06 “I have a 2-burner Coleman multifuel as well. I love it, but if I was to buy one now, I'd get the propane. Pumping the liquid fuel reservoir is a big pain in the arse.” 6:53:21 PM 2/01/06 “I dunno bit, I like my multi-fuel Coleman. And it works great in cold weather too, which can be a problem for propane. New or used? Hard to say, it's easy to replace the pump assemblies but the parts aren't always cheap, depending on what's broke or missing.” 6:56:29 PM 2/01/06 “I have a no-long-made Coleman with one cooking burner and a grill...it used the same Coleman Max canisters my backpacking stove uses...that said, I'd go for something you don't need top pump but, I'm spoiled now...” 7:09:53 PM 2/01/06 “seems like a few of us have the coleman multi fuel 2 burner. It is a good stove, kinda bulletproof, and cooks faster than most home stoves.” 5:54:08 AM 2/02/06 “this won't be of much help but i got that ozark one you're talking about for christmas but haven't had a chance to use it yet...but it "looks" like it'd do well” 7:08:47 AM 2/02/06 “I used the Ozarks propane on a AHS volunteer vaca once and it worked great. Cooked some good meals for a crew of 8. From what I see the difference is in quality of construction. I agree with everyone else about buying a new one. Sure you can get just about any part you need from coleman but by the time you pay for the part and shipping are you going to save any money by buying used?” 7:36:57 AM 2/02/06 “Check the Coleman website, they sometimes have deals.” 9:58:41 AM 2/02/06 “check ebay for some good deals” 10:38:46 AM 2/02/06 “I have an older version of a CampChef stove. 25,000 btu per burner x 2 versus the usual 10,000 btu of the coleman style stove. Nice extra power if you are boiling gallons of water for pasta or if you are heating a large pot of peanut oil for deep frying buffalo wings like I do for tailgating. The stoves are kind of expensive, but the new ones are 30,000 btu per burner in 2 and 3 burner configurations....also you can get a grill topper and griddle to use as accessories. Sometimes you can find the campchef stuff online for sale if you google it. Now if I could only fit it in my backpack;)” 12:51:05 PM 2/02/06 “I want to go camping BBill! Does his own buffalo wings?! Wow! Fancy!” 12:56:30 PM 2/02/06 12:57:00 PM 2/02/06 “Pixie, buffalo wings thus far have been confined to tailgating at UT games, but we did cook 18 scrambled eggs, 2 dozen biscuits, 8 big slices of country ham, 24 strips of bacon, and an unknown amount of pancakes for breakfast on the final day of a trout fishing trip in Cherokee National Forest.” 2:44:13 PM 2/02/06 “Well i have been looking at ebay and not sure that the price is that good when they are returns or parts missing or somthing. But i did find a guy that is selling new ones that is here in lincoln so maybe i won;t have to pay shipping.” 2:21:59 PM 2/03/06
