Held hostage
by the phone company.

My phone went dead three weeks ago. The problem is in the line coming into the house or the network. The SOONEST they could send someone out was 3 weeks. They did forward my home calls to my cell phone. They neglected to tell me that service was only for 5 days. I tried to call the 611 number, but got my cell phone company instead of the service department. I was told that I would have to use a land line to use the 611 number, I told the guy if I had a land line I wouldn't need to use the damn cell, he laughed.

Now I have to take time off work and wait for someone to show up. I was told they would be out between 8:AM and 12:00.

I should have asked if that was 12:00 am or pm.

Tell the phone company you expect not to be charged for every day you don't have a phone. It worked for my parents when they had cable TV installed and the guy hung the wire too low resulting in the wire to be snagged by a truck. The cable company told them they would have to wait until the next week to have the service reinstalled. My mother told them that she expected to not be billed for every day without TV. The next day they sent someone over and fixed the line.

wow, i'm getting ready to go through this with the cable company...i came home the other day to a sign on my door that says "we've detected a signal leak" in you home and have to come inside to check it out...of course the first thing i think of is that they're accusing me of stealing cable which is absolutely false...i think it might be because the cable connection on one of our TVs is damaged...i'm just afraid they're gonna try to make me get it fixed...they're coming this weekend

We have been keeping track of the time, we will be trying to deducted it from the bill. If I get charged more on my cell phone, I will tack that on too.

The guy just got here. He couldn't find the house because they had a street number that was changed about 20 years age....funny, they send the bill to the right address.

It seem the trouble is in a junction box a few poles down. We'll see.......

He got it fixed...kinda sorta. He said it looks like at least 25 other lines in my area have a problem, or will have a problem soon (wet stuff with all the rain). He said because of how long I have been without service he hooked me up to the line that showed the least issues. He said it would take a lot more work to get it repaired properly, but they would get it done.

Back to work..........

That sucks! I would tell them they owe a month free service or something once they get you up and running. It's not like Redding is BFE. 3 weeks is ridiculous.

Here in Illinois, they have to have your phone back up within 24 hours of your report, or they have to credit your account. Not that helps with the phone service (or lack thereof) and all the frustration.

That law has SBC, that serves this neck of the woods, scrambling because all the competition.
