And last night something scared her and she busted out with a noxious cloud of skunk juice under the house, so now my entire place smells like fermented cabbage. I think it may even have absorbed into my clothes because people were looking at me pretty funny at the store this morning.

Now I have to figure out how I'm going to get rid of her before she gets too comfy and decides to start a family under my house this spring. Only, I don't want to hurt her, but I would really rather not get a blast of essence of skunk in the face either. Not to mention that I have a nine-year-old and and a cat, so now I have to worry about one of us getting bitten...what a massive pain in the butt!

Have any of you had a similar experience? Any advice?

Light a fire under there and smoke it out.

I used moth balls to convince a raccoon to leave from under the porch. The stink of the moth balls made the neighbors angry, but they didn't have to worry about being bitten by a raccoon. The smell dissipates eventually. Take your pick: moth balls or skunk.

try your local animal control, they have these traps that are long cylindres that have bait at one end and a trap door at the other. the skunk wont spray when his tail is down. i threw mine in a ditch till he drowned. as for the smell, they have products that are bacteria based and they eat the skunk juice. good luck

Try locating an ozonating unit to minimize the smell in your house. That will help knock it down. The mercaptan components of skunk musk are pretty pervasive. You may need to wash everything, including under the house.

watch that episode of Mythbusters if you can find it. They had some intresting ideas that escape me at the moment.

Wow, I hadn't expected such violent responses. I did mention that I did not want to hurt the skunk, didn't I?

I agree with the calling of your local animal control. call 311 and they will tell you where to call. because it is trapped they will respond. if it is not trapped tell them it is anyway. they will most likly set a trap. i got skunked at work and it was NO fun!!

THE VERMIN MUST DIE!!!!

I'm guessing moth balls will be more effective than animal control. Those guys don't have to live with the skunk.

If you're interested in violent responses we can be a lot more creative than what you've seen so far.

A friend of mine was just telling me how he had gotten sprayed by a skunk last fall (it was in a trap and he was tring to dispatch it) and the remedy he was given was---believe it or not---a Summer's Eve feminine product. He washed himself and his clothes and said it worked like a miracle!

Not only did I laugh the whole time he was telling me this, but now I have a legitimate reason to call him a douche bag.

Years ago when we still lived in Mi. my dad borrowed my brother's Fiero (ha!) to run a few errands. He managed to hit 2 skunks within moments of each other. He returned the car to his house without mentioning this incident to my brother. who wasn't home at the time. Boy, was my brother p!$$ed!

When I lived in Vermont we had a skunk move in to the carport and of course the stupid
dog wouldn't leave it alone.

The stank was so bad it was difficult for most of the family to sleep.

The house was steeped in it.

On the second night I went out with a .357 and a flash light and cleaned it's clock.

I buried that sucker as deep as I could dig a post hole with a long-handled spade......hmmmmm, three feet under.
