New here
I just joined and would like to say Hi to everyone. I love to hike but have never been on an overnight trip and would love to try. Most of my friends are not outdoor people, so when I found this site I got a little excited to see there were so many people to converse with. I look forward to joining a trip.

Welcome aboard! Where in OH are you? Pennsylvania and West Virginia both have great backpacking opportunities with in reasonable drives from many parts of OH. Lots of TTers in PA too and we always have trips going on. Once you go on your first overnighter, you'll find that it doesn't take long to get hooked. Backpacking is so addicting, from the gear, to the sport, to personal time, friends you make, natural beauty, serenity of the trail and solitude obtained, there is really nothing like it. Hiking is great, but backpacking is where it's at!

Keep an eye on the trips page. Let us know what kind of hiking you're into and we'll help find a trip that fits.

Don't worry about the troll calling. It's a newbie hazing ritual that scares many people off. Most of the people on this board are super awesome, the coolest people you'll ever meet!

Welcome, csiler.

You'll find trips all year long in the trips section.

I've been on a number of trips with people here who I had never met. I'd hike/kayak with every one of them again.

I'd even invite any one of them to my house!

Except for violin. Watch out for violin, he's evil.

I seem to be too dumb to get my album working here. I think there are picture of me backpacking Shenendoah last April on Gemini's photo page. My last trip was October in Monongahela WV but no photos.

For truly gruesome photos:

csiler - I wish you hadn't done that. Now I'm in love again. It happens every time I see a pretty face like yours.

Some of us have pictures on Phil's Photo Page(a link is in the column on the fight side of this page).

I do wish it were spring instead of winter so you could see how nice my yard looks with all the flowers in bloom.
I wrote:

I see lots of flowers in the mountains. I can see yards and flowers in bloom all year in Florida. I'm coming to see you! You're my flower. I want to smell you, to taste you, to feel you, to squeeze you, to ... Wake up! Do you hear me?
She wrote:

(Smell, taste, feel, squeeze) Don't ever stop. ...
I am your flower. What a wonderful thing to say.”
Sometime when you're not too busy, you might find the story interesting. The whole story, almost to date, is in the order of the links.

My Old Flame

BTW, It would be great to meet you the next time I'm in Ohio. Perhaps we could meet for coffee or a meal. It would be fun to give the princess treatment, you know, opening doors for you, helping with your coat, your chair, etc., and giving you my undivided attention. Just a smile from you would more than be adequate for a reward.

I pretty much spoiled the troll calling at the beginning.

Bearmagnet loves backpacking Old Rag Mountain in Shenandoah with a full pack on and then following it up with a hike up the side of the Blue Ridge. That was a good trip!

All newbies (especially the babes) are trolls until they hike with someone here who is a non-troll. The funny thing is that all the new hiker babes disappear (from the board) after a while or they turn out to be a man---like Nigal, and even then it took a few hikes and some snuggling with birch before birch figured it out.
