Where are you at in PA?” 6:49:00 PM 2/05/06 “Thanks ! I really just don't know whats wrong with me...I'm very sad.I'm not use to being inside all day and I think it just hit me that I may be stranded at home for 2 months, not the end of the world but it really upset me tonight.” 6:50:17 PM 2/05/06 “Where'd ya go? Watching the Super Bowl perhaps? When I'm feeling down, I remember my mother's words, God rest her soul. She always told me that when I'm lying on my back in the gutter, just remember, I could be face down in a sewer. Things can always get worse. Somehow it never made me feel better but it did make me more determined. I always enjoy a bubble bath with candles and getting lost in a good book. Reading is a great escape from reality.” 6:50:26 PM 2/05/06 “Hey sarge, I'm in state college pa” 6:52:13 PM 2/05/06 “Day - why might you be stranded at home? Like Spirit, I'm at work - I just had a busy stretch - but now things are very quiet. Since I handle emergencies and crises - when things quiet down, I'm free to do whatever (as long as I'm available right away when called).” 6:57:56 PM 2/05/06 “I have a broken leg (femur) and it's bad enough that I'm almost unable to do anything.” 7:00:27 PM 2/05/06 “Pittsburgs winning ....maybe that will make ya feel better!” 7:04:56 PM 2/05/06 “that stinks daydream. now may be a good time to pore over maps and plan a trip or two for when your back on your feet?” 7:05:03 PM 2/05/06 “This is not a crisis and on the scale of bad news this dosen't really register.... I have never been unable to get around and having just moved/taken a new job and not knowing anyone I feel very alone in the world and well I have no pride so went ahead and put my feelings "out there".” 7:06:42 PM 2/05/06 “I can sympathise daydreamer. I had ACL reconstruction (knee) last summer and wasn't able to do anything (including hike) for a long time. I still can't go on a real hike because going downhill is so slow right now -- running is more like a slow jog. You sound like you like to be active, so this might be a good opportunity to take on some temporary hobbies you wouldn't ordinarily have time for -- reading, learning a new skill, whatever. Might keep your mind busy enough you won't feel so bored and down. Besides posting too much on trailtalk, I took up brushing up on chess skills and doing some extra reading. How long are you out of commission?” 7:07:17 PM 2/05/06 “That bites! Sorry to hear it. But hey, remember that will pass and you'll be out on the trail and wherever else you'll be. You can use this time for reflection, reading, writing and other things you might not have time for when you are mobile. There are lessons to be learned when you are stuck somewhere, if you are ready to listen. I spent along time confined by injury. I know you'll be able to adjust - and then it will be over and the pain and confinement will just be a memory. last edited: 2/05/06 7:08:01 PM” 7:07:26 PM 2/05/06 “Thanks Guys !! I am down for at least 2 months....I work outdoors and always have. humm..I use to paint, mabe know is a good time to start again!” 7:12:39 PM 2/05/06 “Hey, not too long ago (couple of months) I moved to a new town, started a new job, broke up with a girlfriend, so I can relate to that feeling alone thing. So, yeah - try the new hobby thing maybe, or read some books that you didn't have time for before.” 7:13:51 PM 2/05/06 “Dayhiker, sorry to hear you're having a bad day. Guess we'll have to keep you entertained on TT. :) I broke my foot in college, couldn't drive my car, couldn't get upstairs to my room without crawling, couldn't go downstairs (basement) to watch TV, couldn't carry my own damn dinner to the dining room table. I was never dependent on anyone else, and I had to learn that it was OK to do so once in a while. Unfortunatly, I didn't learn that lesson until I was off crutches! (I'm a slow learner sometimes!) The loss of just that little bit of independence sucked for me. How long are you going to be laid up? Got any projects you've always wanted to do, but never had the time to do them? Immerse yourself in something if you can. It'll help pass the time. And of course, come here to be entertained by us. :)” 7:14:06 PM 2/05/06 “Hows the weather in PA? I hope to hike through there some day. around here in NW indidna I feel like ive been cheated out of winter. Its been above freezing for the majority of the winter” 7:14:06 PM 2/05/06 “I'm into acrylics .. what about you? Post your pics if on here if you have a scanner or digital camera. Hold on and I might post one in a little bit if possible...” 7:14:44 PM 2/05/06 “Sarge, i had teh same thing on my left knee (The acl replacement) and it took me a few months to recover before I felt I could hike again. Its been about 6 years now since the surgery.” 7:15:50 PM 2/05/06 “It has been fairly warm here until today...It is about 25 or so with 20 ish m/hr wind. we have loads of nasty mud here on the farm so colder temps are not a bad thing.” 7:17:51 PM 2/05/06 “SC - Did you have patellar or cadaver replacement?” 7:19:10 PM 2/05/06 “Hey daydreamer. If it were me, I'd be working on photos and trail journals. Hang in there.” 7:19:19 PM 2/05/06 “Man I had my right knee scoped 5 years ago or so....I had being the the bed sick. I got to start off the year with a two week bed rest from surgery....I read some good books, took care of some backlogged reports. But I just about went bananas....” 7:27:22 PM 2/05/06 “cadaver. I thought it was kind of gross, then I thought, COOL! I have part of some dead guy in me! LOL BTW sarge, I just offically took you off the iggy list so I can read your words now...I figure youve been punished long enough now :D last edited: 2/05/06 7:30:38 PM” 7:29:00 PM 2/05/06 “The cadaver gives you a much faster recovery. I had the patellar. Glad you're liking your new siamese twin.” 7:34:59 PM 2/05/06 “well sarge, if it makes ya feel better, I had a broken ankle at the same time as the knee thing :P I dont recomend doing that btw... the PT was a #&%!$. I kept expecting my PT lady to dress up in black leather with a riding crop. Seriously LOL!” 7:39:44 PM 2/05/06 “daydreamer - Here's my first painting. It's done in acrylics. The colors from the digital transfer aren't quite right, especially in the hat and jeans. ![]() actual size is about 24x30” 7:40:07 PM 2/05/06 “Holy cow SC! The knee recovery is bad enough. It almost seems impossible if you had a broken ankle.” 7:41:21 PM 2/05/06 “Wish I could scan mine. WAYYYY to big for the scanner LOL. I need to get back into painting. Its been way to long. I did oil and some charcoal. Most of my paintings I left back in CA....though I am kicking myself. I know where they are. Two are displayed at my old unerversity. One is with a professor I really liked, one with a friend, several with family. One I have no idea because I had sold it to a stranger after a show. Its been two years since i've picked up a brush. :( I jsut havent had time or the money. but hopefully taht will change this year :) Sarge, I was a fast healer....I healed a couple months faster then expected. Damned if I was gonna stay in a wheelchair one moment longer then I had to. I was a senior in highschool. I didnt have many classes my last year as I had taken a lot of advanced classes (intending to be an engineer) so the last few classes were bs and too easy for me. despite all the time I spent out of class on doctors orders I still did mostly A's. last edited: 2/05/06 7:47:23 PM” 7:44:08 PM 2/05/06 “SC - I snapped a digital picture to "scan" that. Much easier that using the scanner.” 7:46:30 PM 2/05/06 “thats a good idea. I didnt think of that. Maybe I can ask my family to snap pictures of my work they have and sent it to me.” 7:48:53 PM 2/05/06 “SC, word of caution if you do ... most people don't think to hold their camera perfectly perpindicular to the painting. It's really noticeable when it makes it to the monitor.” 7:51:02 PM 2/05/06 “Nice sarge !!! I'm into oils/charcoal.I may try some pencil sketches of my horses...I can see them from my window !” 7:51:34 PM 2/05/06 “That's a great idea. Can't wait to see them! Gotta go. Get well soon!!” 7:54:12 PM 2/05/06 “I really would like to have my cowboy picture back :(” 7:55:57 PM 2/05/06 “Got Liquor?” 7:59:26 PM 2/05/06 “Hope you're doing better today daydreamer!” 6:54:07 PM 2/08/06 THANKS “Much better :)” 6:57:14 PM 2/08/06 “I am really bummed out. Life just sort of seems to suck, again and again.” 8:30:56 PM 7/30/06 “PHD Post Hike Depression” 8:33:31 PM 7/30/06 “That too, I reckin.” 8:34:22 PM 7/30/06 “and its too short. have a drink.” 9:25:45 PM 7/30/06 “I have pre-hike depression. I keep looking at pictures of where I'm going in October...and I really wish I were already there. Oh well...there's always next weekend.” 10:46:40 PM 7/30/06 “I think you need bootliquor.com, a cigar, a scotch and CS Lewis' The Problem of Pain Donate to the station and you can get a deck of drunk chick trading cards. web radio for cowpokes, cowhands and cowtippers. dysfunctional country music” 10:48:14 PM 7/30/06 “I get super short tempered before a hike but come home nice and chilled out. Chili I know this will sound trite and clique` but it's the challanges that make life rewarding. It also helps to remember that one bad thing happening is not connected to the other bad things. Life is not out to get you.” 7:58:12 AM 7/31/06 “Sh-t happens. Always will. The key is how we choose to respond. Hope it gets better.” 9:37:22 AM 7/31/06 “Hope you're feeling better this morning.” 9:59:54 AM 7/31/06 “I figure if I just plunge into my work today, it might help.” 10:07:27 AM 7/31/06 “come along on our PA swimming hole trip. swimming holes make everyone happy, until you dive head first into a rock.” 10:37:00 AM 7/31/06 Jump to Page |  1 | 2
