Computer monitor high-pitched squeal

My computer monitor had been doing this high-pitched squeal off and on and today it just stayed on.

I "googled" and found out turning the refresh rate lower would help. I had it at 85 which, as I've read, is better for the eyes. Taking it down to 75 got rid of the squeal, but boy, I can actually see a bit of movement on the screen, especially in the corners, but even in the middle of it.

Its a 19-inch monitor, ViewSonic UltraBrite A91f+.

Is the damn thing shot? Or in need of repair?

Computers hate Lizs.

I think the monitor is probably dying.

Didn't you just buy that thing?

You have the worst luck with computers.

(Either that or this is a long-running gag.)

Hey lizs, it sounds like your monitor caught what my TV set has. It's been squealing like that off and on for 3 to 4 years now.

Your Flyback Transformer is about to fry. When your screen goes blank it is done.

My TV did that for a while, I just kicked it a few times and it got the message.

The spring is NOT back in the mouse. The scroll wheel turns, just has no catches on it to control speed and action.... baby. LOL!

The squeal is gone with the move to a refresh rate of 75. But like I said, I see slight movements in the corners.

Am starting to peruse computer ads. Tax refund might see me get a new system. DVD and CD don't work. It has an illegal version of Windows XP on it, thanks to a dolt computer repair guy. The next computer repair guy put enough security crap on it that I can't get into any secure site (think Hotmail. think yahoo mail. think ANY site where you want to use a credit card)

The process of fighting all this is starting to wear on me.......... And I have the idea that even having a computer tech look at it (like I TRUST computer techs anymore -- NOT!) would cost two-thirds of a new system???!?

You can get some sweet deals. We got a new system (and monitor) for $150(XP, microsoft works and office, yada, yadda). Best Buy has fantastic sales every once in awhile.
Happy shopping!

$150?!??! WHERE??!? WHOA!!!

What brand was it?

Did you get it around Christmas? I know they have huge deals then. Just from what little I was looking around, I saw most systems started around $500.

Tell me more, Sass! :-)

I had the same problem, and when I took it to the repair shop the guy said, "You clicked on Violin's link, didn't you."
