I sampled 2 new Irish whiskeys today. They aren't available yet but they are good. We ordered a case of each for Paddys day. They are called Micheal Collins. A single malt and a blend. The single malt is real nice.

EXCLUSIVE Named after the legendary Irish hero, Michael Collins Irish Whiskey is the first ultra-premium Irish whiskey. Affectionately known as "The Big Fellow," Collins was the spearhead of Ireland's struggle for independence and the architect of the Treaty of 1921, from which modern Ireland emerged. He died at the age of 31, but his heroic spirit lives on in Michael Collins Whiskey. Michael Collins begins with water from the Cooley Mountains of County Louth, Ireland. Louth, known as the "Wee County," lies on the east coast of Ireland. Its landscape is wild and powerful - the perfect place for a legend to begin. The water cascades to Cooley Distillery, the only independent Irish-owned distillery in Ireland. Founded by John Teeling, an Irish entrepreneur with a Harvard degree who resurrected the distillery and brought it back to its glory days, the company has roots that date back to 1757. Recognized for reviving the tradition and quality of Irish whiskey, Cooley received the ultimate accolade from the International Wine and Spirits Competition (IWSC) for outstanding achievement in the spirits industry. With a fantastic introduction planned for March of 2006, Michael Collins will be available in a blend and a single malt. The blend is a combination of pot and column-distilled whiskeys aged for a minimum of five years in small oak casks. The casks are stored in open sheds where the cool, moist Irish air brings the whiskeys to maturity. The result is a blend that is light and lively on the palate with a hint of peat from the drying fires. Enjoy it on the rocks or neat. Michael Collins Single Malt Irish Whiskey is pot distilled with select grains and malted barley dried over peat fires. This process is the oldest tradition of Irish distilling, dating back to 1762. The newly distilled whiskeys are aged in specially selected oak casks for a minimum of eight years to form the base of Michael Collins Single Malt. The single malt is well-rounded with a wonderfully subtle smoky flavor from the peat that lingers on the palate. It is best enjoyed in a snifter or on the rocks. The company worked with Tim Pat Coogan, the world-renowned journalist and official biographer of Michael Collins, to establish the authenticity behind the brand and name. Coogan acted as a liaison between the company and the Collins family to ensure that the spirit of Michael Collins was imparted into the brand with care.

You think booze brings HAPPY? You're undermining my efforts. I've been trying to teach my children that nothing good comes from drinking. Try sitting around an ER on a Friday or Saturday night. It can be a real life experience. A lot of HAPPY can come from helping others.

Day, I will have to agree with slimmer on the drinking. I had to quit a large number of years ago. My problem was it became more than a hobby to me.
Now if I was drinking...I would be drunk today. I got home last night and was met at the front door by one of my good friends from the Sheriffs office Special Operations unit...apparently my son decided to go play video games at his friend's house...small problem the friend was not home.
The friend's Mom didn't press charges, but now I have to go file a report with my Chief as to why my name will appear of a S.O. police report.
The fun part is when you approach his mother...she gives me this "catatonic stare" and gets in the bed and pulls the covers over her head.
I am getting tired of being the only adult in a house hold with three children (one of whom is 43).

NOW want to know how I get over this? I remember worse times in my life, I remember those backpacking trips from HELL where I got out. I know this too will pass, I know I have good friends who support me (one of whom is my Chief and Assistant Chief). Well time to call the Chief...wish me luck

He 16, and here is the kicker...this is our third "meeting"with the S.O. when he was 13 he went driving in Mom's car...caused a wreck and ran for it. Then a year or so ago he was grounded and he skipped to his friend's house and told their Mom he had been threatened by some BIG GUY who tried to break in.....In the police business this is called "Filing a false police report"

It breaks my heart, he has some problems, but he does not use drugs or alchohol. He just has an almost Narcissistic attitude. Sorry to vent, I know this is a happy thread, but I guess it is like I always say...it can get worse.
Hell they say it is always darkest right before the roof caves in on you.

Just got off the phone with the Chief...he says it will get better, and try not to kill him. (LOL) He did give me some suggestions though which kind of makes me nervous (LOL)

Actually I've seen this before, through scouting. They grow out of it eventually.

treebait, he quit scouting 7 years ago..I stayed in it in the hopes he might come back one day.

Day, when it gets really bad I sit back, take a moment to remember that there is a "purpose for this". I would go through the whole development of this theory, but in the reader's digest version...
25 years ago I went through a hell few people could survive. I reported for duty with 732 classmates, 260 some odd graduated. The first 6 months I lost voer 30 lbs, had ribs cracked, tore muscles, and generally went through stuff that would make the "Abu Gahrib" stuff look like play time. I always wondered WHY I did it.
Then a few years ago during a crisis in my life I though I could not survive. I was three inches away from surrendering and this voice popped up in my head. It was this strong voice saying,"WHAT THE HE*& are you doing, you were trained to handle more than this, GET UP and GET IN THE DAMN GAME."
I was my Cadre Sgt's voice.....
Day, there is a reason, I don't know what it is, but each challenge we face can be a chance for learning....That makes all this bearable.

I'm happy. It is a crisp night with a full moon, and even though it was 46°, it was still fun to take the windowns down and sunroof back and enjoy the night. My hands? - very cold, but it was still worth it. I can't wait until spring!
