DON'T PUMP GAS ON MAY 15TH!"

April 1997, there was a "gas out" conducted nationwide in protest of gas prices.
Gasoline prices dropped 30 cents a gallon overnight.

On May 15th 2007, all myspace members are asked to not go to a gas station in protest of high gas prices. Gas is now over $3.00 a gallon in most places.

There are 73,000,000+ American members currently on the MySpace network, and the average car takes about 20 to 30 dollars to fill up.

If all myspace members did not go to the pump on the 15th, it would take $2,200,000,000.00 (that's BILLION) out of the oil companys pockets for just one day, so please do not go to the gas station on May 15th and lets try to put a dent in the
Middle Eastern oil industry for at least one day.

If you agree (which I cant see why you wouldnt) repost this bulletin repost it with: "DON'T PUMP GAS ON MAY 15TH!"

TOYOTA ECHO
1) I did NOT try and kill us at Harriman... SOMEBODY told me to take a wrong turn where it said ROAD CLOSED!!! (cough, cough, MAPLE)

2) I owned a Toyota Echo and as amazing as the car was on gas mileage and what not, I have 2 complaints about this car:

a) It was extremely light, so on a windy day you get blown all over the highway moreso than any other car I've ever driven in my life.

b) It was horrendous in the snow. I've driven other cars in the snow and this car takes the cake, other than a #&%!$ty Neon, for worst car in the snow.

After we nearly died after falling off the cliff in Harriman in the snow storm, a week later I traded my Echo in and purchased a 4wd vehicle.

I only owned it for almost a year.

Your second complaint as far as the snow is concerned was rectified (no Mark, not rectumfied) with the Yaris. I have the S which seems a bit lower but it goes through anything and everything. My wife has a Dodge Calibur that is higher, more powerful, has bigger tires and is heavier and that thing isn't as good in snow as my Yaris.

The wind thing though is still there. Maybe not as bad but still there.

Nigal, with your butt sucking wind, shouldn't that have a neutralizing effect on the wind blowing outside?

Nimblefoot may be onto something.
Blow it out yer ass!

Since I put Michelin tires on my xB traction and handling in rain and snow has improved.
The car also got a little quieter and handles like a little race car.
Next thing will be heavy duty shocks(yeah, its a light-weight!) since the car has over 70,000 miles.
As far as being kicked about in high winds.....its kinda fun!!

Nigal, does the Yaris have the Might 1.5 liter engine like the Scions?

yep. 106 screaming horses...ok, maybe ponies. I want to start getting some of the TRD performance parts for mine like rear sway bar to stop the body roll so much, a forced air system and maybe a new exhaust. That alone should give me 10 more bhp.
Nigal

Ah yes, a Fart Can muffler!

The forced air system makes a wicked sucking sound.....I drove a demo with that.....pretty cool.

That thing has a hot little engine:
Double overhead cam, four valves per cylinder, 10.5 compression.
It puts out 108 hp with 90 cubic inches.

All the drivers in the family want to drive it and not the mini vans.

Ah yes, a Fart Can muffler!

The TRD ones are discribed as "deep and throaty" . I hate the lawnmower sounds. All I want are the horsepower and better milage.

The forced air system makes a wicked sucking sound.....I drove a demo with that.....pretty cool.

It's supposed to give you 2-3 mpg better mileage as well as 3-5 bhp.

You can bet, it would be hell of a fun to pack Marko and his three sons into my Peugeot 206! I might need a long pole or poker or so, to push 'em further inside to get the doors closed, but I trust my 206 can handle the four Markos :-)

How about a swiss car: the Smart! It is very fuel efficent and still drives up to 120 km/h. They are pretty populare over here and a very common sight on the roads, particulare in the town centres.
I beliefe the Smart is small enough so that you can push it into the back of most US cars?

Still keeping my Echo, BTW I bought it in TN, and only drive North in the Summer with it. After 5 years I can manage just about any driving condition with it. We don't get much snow here. On the other hand, I had driven in Harriman NY in the peak time of winter with a Chevy Citation (yeck!) and once in a Pontiac Sebring (oh yeah!).

Its a mini-mini van!

In Europe they have more engine options than here.
For this car:
1.4
1.6
2.0
1.9 TDI, three diesel options

Yo Euro, is bio-deisel getting more popular?
MarkO

I have seen petrolstation that also had bio-diesel, but they are still very much a rarety. More often you will find cars that drive gas powered engines. Not sure what gas it is (certainly not camping gaz), but meanwhile a lot of petrol stations have pumps for gas.

Gas Boycott on May 15
Picking a day not to fill up is useless. Picking a day not to use gas at all might have a small effect if enough people actually do it(lessen actualy demand for gas), which will never happen. Simply filling up on Tuesday or Thursday instead of Wednesday will not have any effect on the oil companies bottom line. Besides, any "loss" they take from this will simply be passed back to us, the end users.

Right, got to lower consumption until it hurts them. I posted somewhere that I am drastically lowering my usage by doing my grocery shopping on my bike. This means an 11 to 16 mile one way ride and carrying the groceries home in my pack. Being single means less shopping, but the more often I make the ride, the better shape I'll be in. The garden and lots of fishing should help as well.
Nimblefoot

I believe the VW Polo is the same car as the Jetta -- they just call it that in Europe.

Diesel is only cheaper here because no one uses it. Notice how it goes up every winter because it's incidentally the basis of home heating oil as well...

Euro, is that like LP gas?
I drove forklift trucks that were powered by LP cylinders.....clean for indoor use.

You're correct about that, DuctTape.
If people want to get the attention of the petro industry they should cut their driving by a significant amount.
It might help to keep a notebook of all driving including mileage for two to four weeks and decide what trips can be eliminated.

That is also a good way to diet....
Write down every dang thing you eat for two weeks including money spent.
One can see exactly what one should not be eating and how much money can be saved.
Like driving too much, actually taking action can be another matter.

When I bought my Camry I seriously looked at Passat TDI. I finally decided that buying a car that had just been discontinued was pretty stupid. Maybe they'll come back on the market in 08 or 09. By 09 I'll probably be in the market for a vehicle again.

There are several reasons that gasoline is so high. Congress could take the strangle hold off the building of new refineries. They could allow drilling for oil. They could standardize fuel blends.

If you want to complain, complain to the people who can help mitigate the problem.

Some of us don't have public transportation. I've never even seen a cab in my town which consists of a half-dozen other towns inside it's borders. We don't even have a traffic light.

As for gas on May 15th, Read Snopes:

A while ago I figured out how I could use public transit to get to work. It would require me to ride of 3 different buses and increase my commute time by at least one hour one way and increase the commute distance by about 15 miles one way. After all that I would still have to drive 10 miles to the closest bus stop.

Looks like I live in a larger town than catskhiker. My town has one traffic light.
