Bikes were everywhere.” 5:28:36 PM 5/27/08 “most people will blow $37 on beer, cheese, and composite tube meat at the mars cheese castle. people save $37 thinking they are responding to he problem by "changing their behavior" and skipping memorial day vacation yet get all offended when they are accused of being "part of the problem" for driving SUVs that get 20MPG or less. Damn, I'm amazed you can actually see the little people from all the way up there on that pedestal.” 5:31:52 PM 5/27/08 “want to save 20-30% in your gas costs today with no fancy gizmo and keeping your current car? drive 55 MPH. bring back the national 55 mph speed limit!” 5:40:46 PM 5/27/08 “3.94 last edited: 5/27/08 6:05:56 PM” 6:04:21 PM 5/27/08 “$3.93 in Fond du Lac, WI $4.16 down the street from my house” 6:10:13 PM 5/27/08 “4.05 and still climbing. so does that 7-10 dollar per gallon prediction still seem crazy even if it was the oil company geologist that made it? This was all predicted almost 40 years ago during the gas crisis. 55 mph doesnt really save me much since my car is so aerodynamic and efficient.” 8:05:21 PM 5/27/08 “The dollar's workingout on a 'Blowflex' for defensive strength against the dread 'oily bubble trouble'. How do you play it?” 9:56:31 AM 5/28/08 “I've been keeping it around 65-70 mph on the highways and not stomping the gas at every light. yeah, I think we're gonna see $5 a gallon before the end of the summer...” 10:15:47 AM 5/28/08 “I think it will dip down soon than go up again towards the middle of August.” 10:21:45 AM 5/28/08 “Damn, I'm amazed you can actually see the little people from all the way up there on that pedestal. - Nigal BWAHAHA! Owned.” 10:30:53 AM 5/28/08 “I was convinced of $5 gas by July; however it appears to be slowing down. The recent news of less driving will have somewhat of an effect as well as a strengthing dollar. A friend of mine who is a produce manager at a local chain supermarket was discussing what rising desiel prices are doing to produce prices. He said that they receive 4 shipments per week of fresh vegitables and fruit and have had to mark everything up 10%. He increased this to 15% this past weekend to take advantage of the holiday. Next he will be cutting back to 3 weekly shipments, marking up 20% if and when diesel hits $5 a gallon. This may have already happened, I don't know. If it rises higher than $5.50, cut to 2 shipments a week and up to 23% increase in price. He just got his yearly review as well and even though his section of the market has seen a 35% increase in the past year, he was asked to take a pay cut and surrender his vacation time. Come August, I bet this country is in a ressession.” 10:34:03 AM 5/28/08 “$3.78 at Kroger with my frequent customer teeny weeny discount.” 10:36:34 AM 5/28/08 “Diesel has been at or over $5 a gallon here for almost 2 weeks.” 10:41:26 AM 5/28/08 “Just checked...diesel here at $4.95. Enjoy your your fresh produce.” 10:47:36 AM 5/28/08 “Yeah, we won't have any locally grown stuff here until towards the end of July. We were still getting frost warnings last week.” 10:51:04 AM 5/28/08 “creek dancer has a teeny weenie? thats shocking” 11:10:43 AM 5/28/08 “Interesting map. Gotta love MO.” 11:35:09 AM 5/28/08 “I had to do a bit of a drive this morn and decided to see what my fuel economy was at 60mph. I made sure the tires were all filled (42PSI) gassed up the wagon (2006 ford focus wagon) and headed out. I drove 176.9 miles on 3.832 gals gas averaging 46.16MPG about 11 about the EPA est. No A/C , windows up (it was 60 and cloudy). Now to see what I get at 55mph.....” 9:06:36 AM 6/03/08 “Lowest price in my area is $4.00” 9:12:39 AM 6/03/08 “Just changed the oil for the second time on the new van. I am trying the synthetic to see how it goes. Family vacation down to Sarasota in July is going to cost $$$. Hey birch--I have been told not to put more than 40PSI in the tires, it does more harm than good (eneaven tire wear; wearing out more more quickly). I keep mine between 35 and 38. Also been told that using A/C will have no effect on average. Use cruise control as much as possible and avoid mashing the gas pedal to the floor. $4.00 here with a scattering of $4.15 at certain stations. I cannot fathom why you would choose a station that charges $4.15 rather than $4.00 a block away.” 9:31:49 AM 6/03/08 “I paid 3.87 yesterday, but looking at the national average I am about to have to eat my words when I said I'd be surprised if it hit $4. Still, it won't hit the ludicrous $7 that some fool said it would go too this summer.” 9:48:43 AM 6/03/08 “ac will knock off about the same as the loss in aerodynamics of having your windows rolled down. so you can save a little if you can take the heat and humidity but don't kid yourself if it's hot and you are rolling down the windows to keep cool. it's just as efficient to run the ac at that point. when the speed limit was 55 i routinely drove 60. i am a "5 over" kind of speeder. bring back the national 55 mph speed limit!” 9:55:19 AM 6/03/08 “Wow, Birch. that's pretty freakin' good! I can't get close to that in the Forester. I kept it at 70 on my last road trip. I think I will drop it to 60 mph when I head to the Bay on Thursday and see what kind of mileage I get. Cheapest I've seen it around here is about $4.25 a gallon. Here's a good site with gas prices by zip code: http://autos.msn.com/everyday/gasstations.aspx?zip=&src=Netx last edited: 6/03/08 10:11:10 AM” 10:07:55 AM 6/03/08 “Best I ever got with my Forester was 31 mpg which was all highway driving at 55 mph.” 10:11:18 AM 6/03/08 “Yeah, it's definitely more of a gas hog than I expected. Not too happy about that but I NEED the ground clearance...” 10:16:56 AM 6/03/08 “It's the AWD as soon as you have a car that spins all 4 tires you we're going to loss fuel efficiency simply because it's more work to spin 4 wheels that 2. Still mid to high 20's is better that mid to high teens that you would get from a jeep with the same size 2.5L motor.” 10:27:09 AM 6/03/08 “Still, it won't hit the ludicrous $7 that some fool said it would go too this summer.” That usual summer time tourist from the east Atlantic, Harry McCain, armed with this years storm upgrade could send the unregulated trading floors into $ 7.00+.” 10:39:35 AM 6/03/08 “rosey, thats a nice site. I use it from time to time. The only problem with it is that the cheapest places - Walmart, Sams club, costco - don't report to it.” 10:40:58 AM 6/03/08 “Works for me, Walmart and Sams Club don't sell gas around here, and I've never seen a costco in my life.” 10:47:11 AM 6/03/08 “For sure, tis mo bettah than 4wd vehicles. I am willing to take the hit to have something that can handle some of the gnarly trails I come across. It was about the best I could do and still have a semblance of off-road capability. Still, I have guilt.” 11:27:46 AM 6/03/08 “We just got our Costco last year, but have already gone back to Sams Club. The gas at these places are usually a 5-15 cent cheaper than the next cheapest place.” 11:27:47 AM 6/03/08 “Not always though, you have to watch it. Sometimes Costco doesn't lower their price as quickly as the local stations. I just got back from there and the price they have is exactly the same as the corner station right now, $3.97. Rosey, I hear you on the ground clearance! Our county is in such dire financial circumstances the snow plowing was cut back significantly (they would plow the two middle lanes on main thoroughfares only, if they plowed, and never got to residential streets last winter). There was only one snow I couldn't get out in, but the wagon just doesn't compare to the Cherokee we traded in for it. Most of the time it did fine. It does surprisingly well on seasonal roads too if one is careful.” 12:23:14 PM 6/03/08 “Regular is averaging $4 around here. Diesel is over $5 in some places. From what I heard on TV, they said a big spike in prices this summer would come if a hurricane hit the Gulf and did widespread damage. In that case gas could go up a few dollars from what it is now. Hopefully, no hurricanes will hit this year and do serious damage.” 12:28:41 PM 6/03/08 “Yeah. I went through three gas tanks on the Toyota Corolla stationwagon, twice the result of taking it on roads it probably shouldn't have been on. I singlehandedly cleared out all of northern CA of corolla stationwagon gas tanks. they had to start sourcing them in reno, nv...” 1:05:58 PM 6/03/08 “WOW! Hummer sales down 60% in May08 vs 07.” 1:28:06 PM 6/03/08 “Wonder if gas prices had something to do with this?” 1:53:13 PM 6/03/08 “Home heating oil 4.89 per gallon” 2:13:59 PM 6/03/08 “so now is the time to negotiate hard for that hummer!” 2:19:12 PM 6/03/08 “I'd say I'm generally negotiating hard for a hummer...” 2:21:03 PM 6/03/08 “Hey birch--I have been told not to put more than 40PSI in the tires, it does more harm than good (eneaven tire wear; wearing out more more quickly). I keep mine between 35 and 38 WK, I hadnt heard that before. It makes some sense though. I was thinking about how much easier it is to ride my bike with a more inflated tire. Speaking of tires I need new ones asap (they are on order), it was a slippery ride home from RRG last month lots of hydroplaning.” 3:19:57 PM 6/03/08 “Gas was $1.30 a litre (About $5.20 a gallon) this morning....it went up $0.15 this afternoon. That would be a increase of $0.60 a gallon. There were huge lineups at the stations that didn't raise their prices yet.....” 6:48:17 PM 6/03/08 “In the land of big spoons and tiny cups, the sneezeguard at the salsa bar doesn't do dick.” 7:47:25 AM 6/04/08 “Hehehe said a bad word.” 8:06:43 AM 6/04/08 “LZ, I just returned from a 600 mile round trip and got 27 mpg on my 6 cyl jeep by driving no faster than 60 mph. Cruise control:)” 8:18:09 AM 6/04/08 “I hope to get 27 mpg on next big trip. Testing it out this weekend with a drive down to Indy” 8:20:42 AM 6/04/08 Jump to Page << prev
