10 dollars a barrel more for oil, a new record increase, 150 a barrel possible by the 4th of july

That is great news, July 4th could not come faster. I only hope that gas prices hit 5 or more dollars before July 12.

interesting part of that article is that the rise in oil prices have nothing to with the actual production of oil or its use by consumers.

There is a new reason every week why oil goes up. Next week will be because the hurricane outlook for 2008 is mush greater than that of last, so they will need to boost the price now $25.00 just to get ready.

hyway--we should be crossing that $4.00 average sometime in the next 2 weeks.

I don't, the cost of my commute to work will be over $300 a month. I've already cut most of my camping trips and have only done 2 so far this year. I can't justify the extra driving they require.

yep, thats true, but I never said we wouldn't. I just thought it was doubtful. I still say we wont see $7 average gas prices this summer which was what I was responding to when I made that comment.

But the rising cost of oil has been blamed on the falling dollar, the rising Euro, and market manipulation for a long time. People just chose to make up other reasons why its happening.

Darn, I should have gassed up yesterday, when the cheapest near home was $4.22. Today it's $4.34....

weird, since the national average actually went down 0.003 (essentially no change) So somewhere someone should be posting that their gas went down 12 cents to make up for your increase.

$7 is a real strech and it will never happen this year, doubtful ever. I thought we would hit $5 by the end of July, however $4 seems like the magic number for now.

The local gas station I shop at is actually taking a hit on gas to get customers in the door. They charge $.05 less than other stations in the area just to get the customers from the Shell and Speedway stations.

I see this happening more and more and it will be interesting to see if the bigger stations lower their prices.

I wouldn't mind riding my bike to work, but I'm not doing that preggo. It also helps that B & I work in the same place so we can carpool most days. If it was a mile or less one way, I'd definitely walk.

Cheap?
I am not sure that is the word I would use for gas. Right now the least expensive is $4.31 for 87octane.

That is up 17 cents since Monday. Can anyone say 7.50 per gallon by August? Thank God I get 13 mpg...... =0(

Its been rising about 80 cents per gallon per year so 7.00 a gallon is about 3 years away. The gasoline companies are predicting that demand wont fall enough to stabilise prices untill they reach 7 to 10 dollars per gallon.

2010 should see the release of several vehicles that get 70 MPG or better but for now they only exist on paper. For now I am hanging on to the SUV because the increased fuel mileage still wont justify the increase in car payments.....

I still fail to see why it is so hard to understand what is happening. Shell geologist Hubbart predicted that world wide production of oil would peak around 2000 and it in fact did so in 2005. Every year we will produce less oil world wide as the demand for oil will continue to rise. There is no number of oil wells we can drill that will allow an increase in overall production. There are no alternative energy solutions that will ever be a replacement for oil. If I am reading the reports correctly world production of oil is dropping about 2 percent per year and demand is rising at about 10 percent per year thanks to Chinese industrial growth driven by Walmart shopping Americans....

On the national news last night they said $6 per gallon gas is coming and the reason is that what's in the pumps now is $90 per barrel oil. They said once $139 per barrel oil makes it to the pumps the price will rise to 6$. I hope they are wrong about that, but who knows.

Creek Dancer

richB that is ridiculus. Gas Satations raise and lower their prices everyday without getting fill-ups from tanker trucks that day. The price goes up and down with the changes in the price of crude not whats in the pump tanks. If that was so the prices would only change when after the tanker trucks showed up.

Most of the chains set prices based on the latest delivery to the chain and not what is actually in the tanks. Most of the chains get a delivery every day at at least one station in the chain so the price is changed daily.

The smaller stations price gas based on the market around them, more then what the delivery cost.

National average hit the magic number of 4 this morning. Guy on the radio said that portions of the country should expect 5 by the fourth of July holiday. He added that by Labor day, the countries average should be at 5.

How much gas do you think I could get for a healthy 3 month old boy? Sarcasm font

They should have taxed gasoline more years ago and invested in alternative energy programs....

Lets see in the seventies we had 100 years of oil left but we doubled our usage over the last fourty years...

100 - 40 = 60 / 2 = 30 years left...
100 / 2 = 50 -40 = 10 years left...

average result - 20 years left.

Hummmmmm. my how time flies.

I wonder just how much the last barrel of oil will be worth?

I paid $4.44 at a Shell station in Pomona, CA yesterday. The pump shut off at $50. I asked why and the poor employee said, "It is an agreement between your credit card company and Shell because of credit card fraud. Ask them."

Well, I don't think my BofA Visa is the problem because it didn't happen the day before when my wife filled up her car at Chevron.

Shell stations have a way of irritating me! I'm done there for a while.
