Oh, the days when gas was under $4...

High gas prices are good for America, these high prices will make alternative energy sources, more competitive. Some Midwest states are called the Saudi Arabia of wind power. We could have powered America during the day with solar power for one fifth of what it cost for the war in Iraq.

As we all know whipple, the war in Iraq is not about oil. No, really. Stop laughing.

I've been reading about people that lose their cool waiting in those long lines for cheap gas and someone cuts in front of the line.
One guy took a tire iron to the line cutter.

A much better idea:

Proper Response To Gas Station Line Cutters

Remove locking gas cap from your own vehicle
Remove line cutter's gas cap and replace with cap from your car
Lock gas cap
Drive away

I could never see the point of sitting in line to try and save a buck or two at the pump. A dollar or two is almost nothing these days and you will lose more just burning the fuel waiting then you save....

Waste of time....

Energy Dept reports falling supply today...oil prices surge upwards towards $137 a barrel.

Why not just report that we have no oil. What would happen then?

people are slowing down in my area. It's now safe to drive 65 on the highway. It used to be you'd get flattened if you were going less than 75.

Probably the reason they keep the news on the bright side and don't mention words like "peak oil" is because it would make the price go higher.

Last week, I drove to Philadelphia and rush hour morning traffic seemed down from what it normally would be. There just didn't seem to be as many cars on the road as before. I'm not sure if it was just that day, but I'll see next time what it's like.

Driving down to Indy last weekend, I drove at different speeds. On the way home, I kept the cruise at 60 the entire time, 5 miles an hour under the posted speed limit for trucks. I never passed anyone, however I have numerous people passing me at high rates of speed, some even flipping me off.

People that live in Illinois must have fortunes they can tap into driving the large vechicles they have at 100 MPH.

I didn't notice many truckers driving slower last week when I was on the PA. turnpike. Most were going the 65 MPH speed limit or even more, just a few were below the limit. I found that odd considering that they are complaining so much about price of fuel.

I noticed the same thing, CD, when driving to and from Madison last week. Semi's were definitely going under 85, probably around 70. Lots of Illinois SUV's, but they were going slower as well and no one flipped me off until I got to my mothers place and it was her;)

I got 42.35 miles per gallon in my last tank of gas - 2005 Toyota Corolla with about 80,000 miles on it.

:)

Just by slightly modifying my overall driving habits.

Yeah I went from 25 to 29 mpg in my Forester by adjusting my driving habits. Keeping the speed down, using the cruise more, and throwing my car into 4th when city driving.

shift into neutral on downhills - especially long ones, shift into neutral approaching stop lights, accellerate out of intersections more moderately....

I was shocked - the best mileage i'd ever gotten before was around 35 mpg.

I need to check my tires, haven't done that in a month or so. I might get a little better mileage. I guess I can't complain too much for getting 29mpg on a vehicle with over 200k on it when the 2008s are estimated to only get 23mpg.

That was my problem, I was shifting into neutral going "uphill". Still got good mileage, but had to walk to the top.

If they took ethanol out of the gas, mileage should be better. I've read that 10% ethanol lowers gas mileage by about 3%. It's time to get rid of it anyway. The cornfields in the midwest are flooded, corn is at an all time high, the corn should be used for food and it's a stupid program to begin with.

Ah the gas savngs should add up but theres an interesting paradox at work... the more gas you save as an individual the more gas society uses overall. The money you saved will be spent and stimulate the economy or if you save it the bank will loan it out and stimulate the economy for you....

How much do you think the last barrel will sell for? :D
