“well, I had a trainer come to my house (i can't drive just yet)

He said he needed to become pack leader and he had my dog do all his "stuff" sit,stay, heel, drop toy, reach in food bowl all that..well my dog is highly trained so he did all this easy as pie. just like he does for me. then he tried to make him roll over on his back which he refused to do, so i tried and he rolled over just fine.
So this trainer gives me some homework and THEN he reached out to shake my hand and BAM !!! My dog was on him in a flash, no warning !! I got hold of his collar and stopped him from getting the guy really bad but WOW !! I have a BIG problem. So he is going away to a special trainer who reprograms former "working" dogs. I hope it works.”

I had a run in with 2 rabid animals in 2 weeks time and well I had to shoot them cause the guy I work with is afraid of wild animals AND guns ! not funny unless you were there....”

“DD, i have had to work with my rescue hound quite a bit. I doubt he would ever turn on me but he has issues with being a bit too protective. Once he gets going there is no stopping him if he thinks he's being protective. He has gotten MUCH better but I still have a muzzle for him if we expect there to be strange people and dogs around. He tried at the beggining to be top dog around my husband especially. Mike really had to show him who's boss and nearly got bit a few times. The last couple months he's REALLY improved a TON. Infact he's turning out to be more of a lap dog more and more every day lol!”

“I think my best bet is to turn him over to this specialist trainer. he will take him and give him a good home where he can't hurt anyone and he will not be kept crated all the time or anything. In fact I will still "own" him and can be sure he is happy in his new home.
I am very strong for my size and it was all I could do to hold him back from that guy so i think it would be asking for it to keep him.
mabe i could find a dobe with fewer issues.”

“That was sorta the plan but this dog trainer told me you can be charged with reckless endangerment or worse if you have a dangerous dog and it hurts someone. Like those dogs that killed that lady in NY. The owners knew the dogs where trouble and they kept them anyway. so i'm sorry tango but I can't take the risk.”

“no.......the scorpion got loose when the bloody dog in pain went nuts and knocked the cage over.

Said dog is now sedated, patched up and sleeping in his kennel.

“He got out of the yard somehow, and got hurt (I think by a car perhaps?) When we got him back home he was really hurting and we tried to patch him up. He was scared.”

“Oh lovely. Was it the pup? Will he need stitches?”

“Yeah it was the pup. Lucky I have some good patchin up supplies from work. His toe is broken i'm sure. Cleaned it, wrapped it up good. Most of the blood comes from scrapes, no serious cuts.

“I'm going to have to take Aj back to the pound :(. I cant have a dog around that is prone to escaping and being agressive. I have tried my best with this dog. He HAS come a long way from when I adopted him back in november but I feel I am not capable of keeping him safe. He needs a home where the yard and fence is a lot bigger, a home with no small kids or other animals around. Again, he has gotten a LOT better so maybe he will work out with another family better. I feel really bad cause well, Ive really gotten attached to the little guy. But he has attempted to bite my husband, and he tried to attack strangers being over protective. At least who ever does adopt him next will have a house broken, crate-trained, walkable dog...a far cry from what we recieved.”

“SC, I sympathize with the difficulty of your decision. My dog (who died last year) only bit someone once - and it was my mentally handicapped son. The only reason I didn't take him to be euthanized was that I knew my other son had been provoking him intentionally, the two boys look and sound alike, and Christopher just didn't know any better than to not "hug" Barney when he was growling over his food dish. I gave it a lot of thought though - you just can't compare the well-being of your family members, to the love you feel for your animals.”

“Man, SC, and Omaha...I know how you guys feel. I rescue Chessies. Great Dogs, but I had one that was just plain MEAN. had to take it on to Atl for placement and reconditioning.
The two I have right now are sweethearts. The female is an Old Dog, and the young male is a huge 100# or more that is my daughter's dog.
In the rescue business we have a bunch that can't make it with one family and thrive with another.
We rescued a dalmation (the stupidest breed alive) that was deaf. It began snapping at everyone. So my in laws took it. He has lived a great life becuase there is not competition and he has a less active household.
I truly do like the Rainbow bridge story, but the second part is even better....know what I mean?”

“Spirit...how are you in dealing with elderly dogs...my girl (Morgan0 is between 10 adnd 14 years old. She has started going lame in the back legs. When she is on steriods she is better (she already takes cosequin). Is there anything else I can get her to make her more comfortable?”

“XL, I dont know. I had elderly dogs growing up (15, 18 year old dogs) who were very healthy untill the end when they had to be put to sleep due to cancer. I have an 8 year old dog who is wonderfull and in prime health. I wish I could help you out :( good luck with your friend.”
