“ANNAPOLIS, Maryland (AP) -- William Donald Schaefer, a former governor who is now state comptroller, ogled a young woman at a Statehouse meeting. And he made no apologies about it.

"She's a pretty little girl," the 84-year-old Democrat told reporters. "The day I don't look at pretty women is the day I die."

Schaefer stared intently at the woman as she walked toward the governor's office after she brought him a beverage Wednesday during a Board of Public Works meeting. Then he summoned her back, as people waiting to testify watched and waited.
The aide, looking puzzled, returned to the table, and Schaefer told her, "Walk again," and watched her as she made the second trip to the exit.
He then went into the governor's private office and returned to say the woman was embarrassed by the incident.

When reporters later asked him about the incident, he called their interest "dumb." He said "this little girl" ought to be "happy that I observed her going out the door."
"The one who is offended is me," he told the reporters.

Schaefer (D) watched her walk away, appearing to stare at her backside, then motioned for her to come back.

The two Democratic candidates for governor expressed dismay yesterday with Comptroller William Donald Schaefer (D) for ogling a 24-year-old woman in a public meeting Wednesday, aides said.

Even so, Montgomery County Executive Douglas M. Duncan has no plans to remove a picture featured prominently on his Web site that shows Duncan and Schaefer joining hands at an endorsement event, a campaign aide said.

Maryland Comptroller William Donald Schaefer abruptly reversed course this afternoon and issued a hand-written apology to a 24-year-old aide to Gov. Robert L. Ehrlich Jr. whom Schaefer appeared to ogle in a public meeting this week.

Just hours earlier, the 84-year-old comptroller continued to insist to reporters that there was no reason to apologize for an incident that took place Wednesday in a Board of Public Works meeting.

A senior aide to Schaefer hand-delivered the letter to the woman, who is an administrative aide in the governor's office, around 2:45 p.m.

"You have handled the 'affair' as a trooper," Schaefer (D) wrote on Comptroller's Office letterhead. "Sorry you were put thru [th]is ordeal!"

The episode occurred early in the meeting of a panel that includes Ehrlich (R), Schaefer and State Treasurer Nancy Kopp (D). The aide delivered a mug of tea to Schaefer, a former governor and mayor of Baltimore who is seeking reelection this year.

I think there is nothing much wrong with having a look at a good looking guy/gal It's natural. Hell I've done it and I'm sure most everyone else has as well.

That said, It is DISGUSTING for someone, young or old, male or female to reduce another person to an object of sick lust. It is threating and disrespectful and only serves to further divide men and women who are already divided by so may stupid reasons.
I also think the best way to prevent this type of behavior is for someone of the same sex to call the perv down for doing it. Men call other men on crossing the line and ladies should do same. Its a lack of respect plain and simple.”
