They don't scare me, but I know there are ones you should fear if you have biting spiders in your state or area. I take my house spiders, make them walk onto a piece of paper and put them outside. That's the Buddhist in me.

I had one of my dispatchers who was on shift one night a few months ago. He called me in complaining of this "bug bite" on his arm. I took a look and saw the unmistakeable marking of the Brown Recluse bite. It was almost midnight and he kept denying that was what had happened. So the next morning I had his station captain order him to go to the doctor. Three WEEKS and eight surgeries later he was released from the Burn unit (they do all the high tech skin stuff).

I was bitten on the back of my leg by what I suspect was a brown recluse. Never felt the actual bite, but definitely the after-effects. The wound was surrounded by a bit of necrotic tissue that would not heal. Antibiotics did the trick. I am guessing the spider was in my turn-out gear at the fire dept.

I used to be until I had to spend a night in an lock-up in India, tripping on Timothy Leary's drug of choice, in a cell where there must have been thousands of spiders...webs went from ceiling to floor at every corner and there was not single inch not occupied by a spider...until then I used to run if I saw even the tiniest spider in a room...now, I don't mind living in a house where an exterminator, 15 years ago, said he saw the biggest spider in our basement he had ever seen in his life...spring and fall, I have them daily in the bathtub...come summer, wolf spiders are found inside hunting the wildlife that lives with us...

I'm afraid of spiders & snakes.

Shot my share of both. It takes me quite a while to heal from spider bites and a rattler nailed me in the knee.

I like spiders, but really don't like widows. I've already found a dead spider in some washed, picked grapes I got from a local Publix. This just reinforces my tendency not to buy them any mor.

I worked with a lady, way up here in MI, who found one in her bag of bananas. Her 7 year old son identified and caught it in a jar. That's a long way for a spider to travel.

Widows are now documented in Minnesota. Their naturalized range is now huge. Kind of like possums and armadillos that are now found in Michigan.

I was breaking up firewood on a hike in the Deam Wilderness Area in Indiana when I noticed something on the end of the stick I was holding. It was a black widow. My first reaction was to throw it on the ground, brush myself off at 100mph and scream like a little bltch but I just held the stick and watched it for a few minutes. It was so cool because it was like seeing something you always hear about but never find. I let it go in the bushes a distance away.

We are having a rash of Brown Recluse bites down here. Don't know why, but lately they are just everywhere.

As for general impressions....I have a great distaste for those 'Barking" type you hear after a couple of days of trail food. Especially bad when you are trapped in a tent with a tentmate with a bad case.

A favorite pastime of the troops in Iraq is Camel Spider fighting. I’ve seen videos of them pitting a camel spider against scorpions. Cute little buggers too.

Here’s a cute vid of one eating a lizard. A frickin’ LIZARD!

LOL at the thawt of big'ole Nigal running "100mph and scream like a little bltch"! In the Phx area black widows are ALL over the place. There are plenty out in the back yard, the kids know not to mess with them.

Hey XL, what's the "unmistakable marks" of a Brown Recluse bite? Just so I know. Is it dying discolored tissue, or is there a particular bite pattern???? Thanx dude.

Emporer scorpions killing a cat, wtf?? Did anyone not consider Googling the local types of possible toxic fauna? These particular scorpions are sold to kids for pets.

And as for spiders, anybody here like tarantulas?? Since moving here and seeing some on dayhikes, I've learned quite a bit. At first, nachurly, when we saw them I was a lil skeert to pick one up, but enough ppl(trusted) told me it was OK that eventually I got the balls and awed my offspring! So I dug up some for the kids to play with, 3 females. They are fantastic pets, the kiddies just love them! I had to make a rule tho, play with them ONLY when sitting down and on the carpet. Their abdomens pop easily if dropped, we killed 2 early on, learning the hard way .... RIP little fellers...

We have HUGE spiders that live under our bathroom sinks....we just live with them....(not to mention, we can't catch them!!!)...there is also a very smart one in the kitchen window.....can't catch him either.....lol....we keep him busy by sucking up his web in the vacuum....they are not poisonous ones, so no big deal....

Ape...the bullseye swelling and the decrepidation of skin used to be the BIG sign now with MRSA this may not be the best diagnoses. I would suggest ANYONE who suspects either a Bite or MRSA (that is the resistant strep infection) needs to get it cultured and have the docs figure out which it is.

Had a kid here a few weeks ago get the MRSA in his respiratory system. Damn near died.
