Dear DDX,

I am looking to replace the old comforter on my bed. I am looking for something practical that is manly, yet soft enough that the ladies will love---something that says "I will compromise for her pleasure" but not something that says "bend me over a chair." Any suggestions? What about down?

Sincerely,

Mystified in Michigan

Down also has a way of sticking together when you crap your bag because you didn't go due to lack of paper.

i prefer the shower curtain approach...it says "i want to get it on with you but i'm still concerned about my new mattress"

Well hell thrifty ya might as well just go for the plastic mattress cover that says, “I’m neat and tidy but things are going to get messy”.

Personally I use a 600 fill down comforter that I can change out the Duvet cover with whatever seems fashionable. Replacing a Duvet cover every so often is much cheaper then replacing a nice comforter.

Duvet cover? I'm looking for a cover for my bed---I don't have a duvet.....I don't think.

Will the Duvet cover not compress the down? ;-)

I have a down comforter and change the duvet with whatever colors are in my bedroom at one particular time. And yes, it is much cheaper than having to buy a whole new bedspread.

My favorite bed accessories are 800 thread count cotton sheets; and a nice thick (at least 4") high quality removeable pillow top is the bomb, too.

Then of course, throw in my hot man, and I would never get out of bed. It can cause problems on work days.

A duvet is basically a comforter cover

A duvet (pronounced /du've/, from the French duvet - is a type of bedding— a soft flat bag traditionally filled with down or feathers, or a combination of both and used on a bed as a blanket. Duvets originally came out of rural Europe and were made of Eider, a type of duck's down, which is well known for its usefulness as an insulator.

Then why are there buttons on one side.......to put a comforter in it!

I think there's a difference between a duvet and a duvet cover.
Ruby

Basically a Duvet is a comforter.

Once you put it in a Duvet cover and throw it on the bed - the whole thing also become a Duvet.

“My favorite bed accessories are 800 thread count cotton sheets; and a nice thick (at least 4") high quality removeable pillow top is the bomb, too."

My favorite bedroom accessory is a bottle of Jergens hand lotion and a box of Kleenex.

LOL!

Actually I have these super thin, super soft sheets that are like sleeping in butter. And anyone who's had the pleasure of sleeping in butter will tell ya, it's the shiznit. This with my huge down comforter (yes with a duvet) and I sleep so well I can sleep through my alarm for an hour.

Now you know DDX's masculinity is questionable if he knows the term "duvet" AND what it means...

But the question is.... What color is is cover?????

My guess... Orange or Pink
pinkbubelz

and do the covers match the drapes?
thriftyhiker

2/24/06

This is very similar to the comforter I have. Well worth the money... it'll last forever if you take care of it. I bought one at Sierra trading post a couple of years ago when they were 80% off. 800 thread count shell with 600 fill power down. Think I paid $90 for it but they normally run in the mid to upper 200's for a cheap one.

Down COmforter

Then you buy a Duvet cover which is essentially a large bag that the comforter slides into to protect it and keep it clean.

During the summer I ususally just use a coverlet/bedspread.
