Gear related!
I have spent hours, much of the week-end, in fact, hauling all my gear in from outside and entering weights on a chart I had downloaded..I was able to check the gear I planned to take, which gave me the weights, then when I wanted to go back to the earlier screen it to me to uncheck, checked box and, when I did that, all my entries disappeared...next time, I'm doing it on MY program! bla!

Excel does as good as anything for keeping up with weights.

There are only three weights and they're pretty easy to figure out:

Heavy
Damned heavy
Too damned heavy

I thought you might be using MS Word like myself. I'm about ready to throw my computer out the window!

Try putting your computer in your pack and seeing how heavy that is. Maybe you should hike it in with you next time and leave it somewhere as a warning to others.

bionicear, I don't think my computer would either keep me warm or dry in the woods...think I'll stick with backpacking gear but thanks for the idea...

I used Exel for my weights. I have a spot on the spread sheet with all the gear (sorted by category) each piece of gear has a number that goes with it. In another spot on my spread sheet is a list of gear to take with on next hike. All I do is enter in the code from my list and the weights add up for me. I have a goal weight for the trip and if I go over the real weight of my pack will turn red.

I use databases for everything. Lately I've been using MySQL. What Sarge said, pen and paper work plenty good too.
