I'm going with a bivvy set up for this trip. Same set up I had last weekend. I was nice and cozy warm. Should be the same this weekend as the night time forecast is slightly warmer and there is not as much wind.

I'm bringing a tent. I want to get some use out of my winter gear before I switch to my tarp when the snow melts and it's above freezing. If the long range forecast is right the next week is looking warm.

next week I plan on doing some peaks in the Catskills. Hopefully when I get home from the 'skills next week, I'll be more than halfway complete in my quest for the 35ers.

Cool, maybe you'll finish them this year.

We'll likely be hiking on some snow tomorrow, but I don't think it will be much. We got 4 inches here yesterday.

we did have a great time. There was enough snow on the ground to look really pretty, make for nice walking, but not make things difficult. The weather was gorgeuous the entire weekend and while we were sitting around the fire Saturday night at your campsite, we were each thinking, "this is as good as it gets."

here are the pictures that I took from the weekend.

Trip Report
We all got together saturday morning with overcast skies and snow flurries and began the steep, infamous ascent up to high rock. After enjoying the vista, we proceeded to alpine falls and ate lunch under a overhang. The falls was completely forzen. It had been about five months since my last backpacking trip and I felt it.

We continued on to Sones Pond and the skies cleared to a deep, brilliant, blue. Along the way we passed by two female hikers. The pond was frozen over and seemed brilliant in the sunshine. We then made a tough, rugged bushwhack down coal run, passing several waterfalls and cascades. After returning to the road, we crossed the loyalsock creek and proceeded to bobo's secret campsite. It was a great campsite, next to a creek. The creek tumbled over a small rapid with boulders. It was absolutely beautiful. We got a great fire going.

We got up and hiked the link trail along the creek. The day was beautiful without a cloud in the sky. We all enjoyed canyon vista, though it was windy and descended back to the park.

Afterwards we went to the Forksville Inn where I had a salad, beer fries, a yuengling, carrot cake, and two helpings of chicken and biscuits, which was on the house. ENS and Pennsy are wussy men and couldn't handle a second helping.

It was great to get back out, great company. The scenery was great. Nice pics, ENS.

Nice trip report Jmitch. I didn't take many pictures, but I posted a few here The bushwhack down Coal Run was tough with full packs and the slippery conditions. I fell once and sprained my finger. I was disappointed that my voice went away for the weekend and it still isn't back. It made talking on the trail about impossible. Otherwise, it was a great trip for me.

Chalk up another great PA trip. Woohoo!
It was great to see RichB on the trail again.
Rich has also mastered the Marlon Brando impersonation, but I hope he gets his real voice back again soon.
Jmitch's bushwhacks are always a blast, but he needs to do more backpacking. How ya feeling today, old man? ;o)
It's always entertaining to see what new misadventure ENS gets himself into.
Bobo's secret campsite rocks.
A huge campfire rocks.
My dinner rocked. (but Jmooch will go hungry next time for calling me a wuss)
Peppermint schnapps and hot chocolate rock.
Rich's and ENS's pics rock.
The Forksville Inn rocks.
The weather really really rocked.
and of course the Loyalsock - Link Trail rocks.

great trip reports!

a few little tidbits I'd like to add.

This trip was picture perfect from start to finish, except for the injury to my back, which I am still not sure what I did.

The weather could not have been better during the winter. The skies were gorgeous and over the light snow covered ground, it was amazing. The campsite was also perfect. Saturday night was a night I would had been happy to remain in camp forever. I loved the sound of the creek as it flowed by us. The fire we had going was roaring and kept us warm when the temps started to dip Saturday night. I think the Loyalsock Creek is one of the most picteresque waterways in the state. This trip was a reafirmation of sorts. After my sense of state was rocked earlier this week, I was reminded at what a wonderful state in which I reside. I remember kicking back while in camp Saturday night and thinking, "life is good".

Calmwater, hope all is well for you out in CA. I remember you were with us the last time on the Link trail and that was another nice trip. Temps were similar this time, but with snow on the ground. It was below freezing most of the day Saturday and reached a low of 15 early Sunday morning. At least the wind calmed down at night. Saturday and Sunday were a bit windy at times and made it feel colder than it was. The March sunshine was fairly strong and that felt good.
