I found it on the street yesterday.

What do you think?

I just hope it isn't bad luck like that tiki idol that Bobby Brady found in Hawaii.

Good luck in your quest to find the rightful owner. Have you made up signs yet? Of course, you probaby are going to the police station later today to let them handle it. I wonder how long they'll hold it until they give it to you undeclared?

Violin, what did you find out about it? No year, looks old. Find anything about it's value, etc?

It's not a real coin. It looks like a copy of the "walking liberty" dollar. I'm not sure if it's even real silver. Silver is trading at about $10 an ounce now.

Still... bling is bling... right?

Yes Violin, you should really do the honest thing and return it to its rightful owner. I totally lost that the other day when I was in New Jersey! It's actually a magical amulet. I'll email you my address so you can send it to me.

Well, not that I'm necessarily qualified to judge bling but from the rare glimpses of People and Entertainment tonight, I'm not sure you have bling there. ;)

I did a quick google to see what it was you'd found....didn't see anything like it. I didn't spend too much time though.

Cool lyra.

Don't worry if the box smells a little poopy.

Cool, but I should mention that part of its magic is that it causes eternal constipation for the person who poopeth near it.

Not that I doubt you... but what town did you say you were visiting when you lost it?

Basically I went on a tour of every town in NJ that weekend, so I don't remember. :-D

If it was a real coin, it would be virtually valueless because of the hole.

It's one of those pure silver "coins" you see advertised in magazines and on tv. That's the "walking liberty" coin that was all over the place a few years ago.

Violin, if you want to clean it, take a piece of aluminum foil, fold it over a couple times, put it in a bowl, put the silver ingot on the aluminum foil, cover with baking soda and pour boiling water over it.

Should take the tarnish right off.

I think what looks like tarnish is just an effect from the scanner.

Thanks treebait!

Even though it is work $10, some poor bastard probably paid $29.95 for it.

"Find" a silver chain for it. Then it's bling.

It's a reproduction of the $20 gold piece designed by Auguste Saint Gaudens in the late 1920s. It's worth exactly the going price for one troy ounce of .999 percent pure silver.

The design of the original gold coin is considered by numismatists to be the most beautiful coin in the world. I have a reproduction that is clad in gold and a proof coin. Very beautiful.
