Sleeping bag questionView MessagesViewing posts 1 to 32 of 32 messages posted.
“Does anyone know if a Marmot LH bag will zip into a North Face RH bag. Also anyone have any reviews on the Marmot Pounder. I want to use it for summer camping in place of my Cats Meow as I'm a very warm sleeper. The zip in question is if this Marmot will zip into my Fiancees Cats Meow” 11:05:34 AM 3/03/06 “bump” 2:40:12 PM 3/03/06 “Only way to know for sure is to try it. So many different zippers out there. I know Western Mountaineering bags all use similar zips, but in general, only two same type bags from the same manufactor work together..” 2:46:08 PM 3/03/06 “From what I read about the Marmot Pounder bag, its rating is overblown. If you sleep warm and use it in mild temps it may be OK. If you do get one, you might want to get it from a retailer that will take it back if it isn't warm enough for you.” 2:53:58 PM 3/03/06 “RichB I have to sleep ontop of my Cats Meow in the summer time its way to hot for me currently.” 3:14:16 PM 3/03/06 does anyone have this sleeping bag “ ![]() http://www.backcountry.com/store/MTB0009.html?id=SyjmsAFc&mv_pc=674 or know anything about it? Backcountry.com has it for a good price and it looks like a nice warm bag.” 2:12:09 PM 8/22/06 “What's the loft? Didn't spot that in the ad. 16 is a very odd rating.” 2:20:42 PM 8/22/06 HEY ENS...! “Take your Dang Nambit GEAR questions to a BACKPACKING board!....(Mumble....mumble...sheetin' people always want to post off topic stuff on a nice clean, focused forum like this, just pisses me of....mumble...mumble....) last edited: 8/22/06 2:27:44 PM” 2:24:16 PM 8/22/06 “...as is 725 cubic in down.” 2:25:46 PM 8/22/06 “I think the odd rating is because it is european. 725cm is what I saw too.” 2:28:32 PM 8/22/06 “I've heard good things about montbell. I hope it's good, cuz I just bought it.” 2:30:01 PM 8/22/06 “MontBell actually rates it at 15.8F. Maybe it is a conversion from centigrade. The thing that I wonder about is this. Down bags typically last about 20 years if they are stored properly. However, I have never know any elastic or stretchy fabric material to last anywhere near that long, even if it is just in storage and not used. Soooo, would you want to risk having elastic go bad long before the down looses its loft?” 2:30:15 PM 8/22/06 “Can't be correct. 725 fill in cubic cm would be 11,881 fill in cubic inches. ;-)” 2:39:00 PM 8/22/06 “Elastic goes bad pretty quick.” 2:44:50 PM 8/22/06 “I never liked that elastic idea in Montbell bags. Ever notice how the elastic in clothing gives out in a few years? Why would a sleeping bag be any different? It probably wouldn't be.” 3:00:08 PM 8/22/06 “it has a lifetime warrenty” 3:05:55 PM 8/22/06 ““it has a lifetime warranty” That can mean many different things. It can mean lifetime for a typical user. What is that, depends on who you ask. The fine print for some synthetic fills say they are good for 3 years, even though the manufacture says lifetime. It could also mean, when they bag goes bad, they expect you to die ;-) last edited: 8/22/06 3:19:44 PM” 3:16:53 PM 8/22/06 “Looks like a very questionable buy. I would return it ASAP! ;-)” 3:22:37 PM 8/22/06 “Like Steve said, Lifetime warranty in many cases means life of the product, not your lifetime. When the elastic wears out, they could just tell you "Well, that's the lifetime of elastic."” 3:32:33 PM 8/22/06 “I think that was the problem with my marriage, the old lady lost her elastic long before I lost my loft.” 3:51:07 PM 8/22/06 “LOL@Nimblefoot” 4:29:39 PM 8/22/06 “Good one Nimble...may I use that in a conversation (LOL)” 4:34:37 PM 8/22/06 “If the elastic wears out it's still good, it will be just a normal sleeping bag.” 7:04:38 PM 8/22/06 “I've heard before I posted this thread that Montbell makes really good sleeping bags and that mountaineers love them. They are standard mountaineering bags, that's what they are designed for.” 7:18:08 PM 8/22/06 “Montbell does indeed make a quality product.” 7:32:09 PM 8/22/06 “It looks like a red turd” 7:39:21 PM 8/22/06 “It does look a bit like Mr. Hankey!!! ;-) ”8:02:10 PM 8/22/06 “725 refers to the loft power. eg one ounce of 725 loft power down will occupy 725 cubic inches. Its a big boofy bag.” 5:08:09 AM 8/23/06 “16 degree bag, 2 lbs. not bad. with a bivy and LJ's you should be good down to zero.” 5:53:53 AM 8/23/06 “Agree with Jackstraw....I have used a down bag and a Bivy (REI Minimalist) for years....never had a wet bag even in driving rain.” 5:59:28 AM 8/23/06 “Where was the rain driving? Was it going north or south? It makes a big difference.” 12:31:14 PM 8/23/06 Montbell bag “I'm very happy with the bag. I own the number 3 super stretch down hugger which is comfort rated to 32 degrees ... and the 32 is right on the money, I sleep warm and the bag starts getting a bit cool at about 28 degrees for me. It would be nice to have a more weatherproof shell, but it's no worse than other bags I've used in the past. Montbell super stretch bags rely on their superstretch system to gain efficiency. Because of this they have a bit less loft than a conventional bag and can make a really light bag with 725 fill rated down. I read where Montbell is going to 800 fill down for the '07 line, so all the '06's have to go!” 4:19:15 PM 8/23/06
