Mother's Day Weekend Kids' Trip III

“Sticks and DNB, you are talking about two different camp sites.

Sticks site is primitive with just a pit toilet next to a parking lot. No extra fee to use.

DNB looks to be a respectable car camping site even with showers. I think it was $14/site/day.


I am all for either one. I had not considered the Koomer campground before, however that one appeals to me the most.


So here's the plan. Please everyone chime in tonight with your opinion. Let's make a decision by 10 p.m. tonight so we all know where to go.”

TH is across the road. hike this straight and you will be at the same camp as we have been discussing. However, there is a spot close to the road that would most likly hold this group. Lots of trees to tie up tarps. Ruby this wold be Happy creek area, where you found the morrell mushroom. Sass and abby are picking me up in the morning and we are riding down to the gorge.I will check this page in the morning and see what you all have come up with. Jer.”

Is this the pine stand just accross the first footbridge from the Martain's Fork TH? About 5-10 minutes from the TH? That place is pretty good for tarp slinging.

I'm leaving this one to the parents though. It's a kid's hike so the parents are going to know best what their kids will be better with.

You know what, I am going to be one of those people who says "I don't care, you choose". I don't know the area well enough to have an opinion that counts. I do like the idea of being closer to the cars, just in case the weather gets really nasty. 5-10 min hike vs parked right there doesn't make a difference to me.”

“Okay. It's 10 p.m. for everyone except my time zone, but I'm making the call.

We are going to Happy Creek (my name -- not on any map). It is about a half mile hike in. To get there, go into RRG via the Nada Tunnel. (If you don't know where Nada Tunnel is, ask at the gas station in Slade when you stop to buy your permit). Park in the parking lot that you will come to on your left. I think it's .5 - 1 mile past the tunnel. The TH is on the other side of the road from the parking lot about 50 yards back toward the tunnel.

The campsite is as Jerbear described. Full of pines, lots of places for us to tie up our tarps. It is right next to what I call Happy Creek. It is close enough that if you want to make two trips in you can (perhaps you want to bring heavier chairs to sit on).


Get there when you get there on Friday. Don't forget...pizza at Miquel's on Saturday!!!!!!!”

“I think that's where I camped last time on the trip Crash organized. The site should be plenty big and there was a portajohn in the parking lot. The trail to the camp site follows the creek -- pretty easy to find.
