I talk a lot to people who I disagree with in the real world, and have never experienced the name calling and finger pointing (accusations of being a racist, a homophobe, a male chauvinist) that I experience on here everyday.

But LOLing each other and saying "I'm sending good thoughts your way" isn't a mark of civility, kindness, and certainly not greatness. Sending each other things when others are in need ... yeah, that's a good thing ... but what about when people aren't in need. I just don't see a lot of civility at those times.

Times shouldn't have to get horrible for people to be nice to one another, and the style over substance LOLing is not a substitute for real kindness.

That said, there are some great people on here too. But overall, I wouldn't put the group as a whole on that high of a pedestal.”

“I don't drink and I have had a blast on the one hike I went on with the crowd. I find the group to be the typical "hiker/backpacker" I can be with people I have little in common with but in the backwoods I find we all look after each other.
(snif snif) I remember sitting there getting ready to slash my wrists in anger...Nigal walked over and calmly explained "You are too emotional, and...um you are cutting the wrong direction."
