Speaking of smoke alarms, have you seen the one that records a parents voice, and when it goes off a child would hear their parents telling them to get up so they dont panick? The ad I heard said something about kids waking faster to the voice than the alarm sound. Is this just crap or do you think there is something to it?”

i was thinking it'd be nice to have a detector that could auto dial a phone number if it went off. for example, if you live in the country and you're out of town it would call your cellphone.

seems like the technology should be pretty easy to put together.

is there anything like that around that you know of?

“I answered some of this on the other page but what you can do is go to the US Fire Administration page and get some information, additionally major insurance companies have lots of information.

Security panels will have smoke detector options. The question is what is charged in your area for false alarms. In my parent's home town you get two false alarms a year..then pay $500 an alarm.
I put some information on sprinklers etc . The best bet is to be as fire safe as possible. Remember fire needs a source of heat. Usually it is something STUPID....I know it has been with my family (LOL).”

Lentini is a CHEMIST...he has never fought a fire (other than training) he has not gotten up at 3Am in the rain and cold to go investigate. He is a prima donna in my opinion.
I have met him and talked with him he is willing to say anything to make a buck. Sorry but I can't see that. Our job is to get facts, not make cases.

One other thing we are doing now that departments did not do in those days is cutting back on the amount of Overhaul (cleaning out) of a structure. Often in the process you would destroy evidence. Today my people let me look at it and identify what NOT to touch.

NO the fact is that no matter WHAT you use to get the little sweeties up, (sorry I mean to say AWAKE) if the little monsters DON'T know what to do WHEN they wake up they will stand there like zombies.

Let me see if I can explain this. If there is a fire we cannot always be certain it will not start in an area that is NOT protected by an alarm system (do you have alarms in your attic or basement?) I have seen fires burn in attics undetected until they break out and then it is really too late to look for the alarm to give you those few extra minutes to escape.

Just as firefighting is not a "skill" but a trained response (i.e. I cannot send you through "fire man school" and expect you to be immediately able to do the job. Rather you must Acquire the various skills until they are second nature.

The same with any disaster response. In such a situation your reaction must be WITHOUT THOUGHT. The only way to build this is to run drills. It makes it second nature.

For instance when I have an emergency at home, I react, I treat the emergency I do what it takes to stop the loss. You probably immediately reach for the phone to call mommy or the GOVERNMENT to come wipe your ass every time you have a nasty poopy. (LOL)”
