You might also check to see if all the icons at the top of your page are checked. Perhaps you unchecked "chatter" or "fuego" (the fire or the magaphone icons)

Under pressure to meet combat needs, the Army and Marine Corps brought in significantly more recruits with felony convictions last year than in 2006, including some with manslaughter and sex crime convictions.

Data released by a congressional committee shows the number of soldiers admitted to the Army with felony records jumped from 249 in 2006 to 511 in 2007. And the number of Marines with felonies rose from 208 to 350.

Well, it's a good place to put those convicted of sex crimes. There's probably less chance of them surviving in the military than a general population in prison.

I also have no problem with felons being in the service, so long as they have done their time. You want killers, don't ya? On the serious side, it used to be not a big deal to be a felon in the service. Many people straightened their lives out due to the more disciplinarian structure in the military and created very successful careers. The fact that mine wasn't one of them is beside the point.

On a larger scale, I have never understood our country's unforgiving attitude toward felons who have served their time. Probably deep rooted Christian thing...the need to eternally punish. It's very difficult for them to find jobs and they can't vote. However, even I am not stupid enough to want to give them the right to bear arms. There is going too far, even in my book.

I may be the first one to ever say this, but...I could be wrong. Maybe it's up the the state?

Nimblefoot... I don't want to engage in a flame war but just to let you know... most of the aftercare agencies which do job training and assist with job placement for ex-felons are Christian in affiliation. The loudest voices I have heard for perpetual punishment of felons comes from the non-faith based arena.
