I recently had shoulder surgery and just completed my Phys Therapy. I have tons of sick time to burn before I retire, so next week, I fly to LA, take amtrak to Portland for the heck of it. Then dayhike with old army buddy (no Brokeback jokes, please) near MT ST Helens, then road trip to Grand Canyon, dayhike there and hit several other points of interest as the mood strikes. Oh yeah, hit Vegas and return to Alabamastan. Life is good.

Glad you are doing better!

About two weeks. This is just the warm up for the big trip I am planning for late this year. I plan to do a volcano tour in Central America with treking, biking and rafting, then fly on down to the Pattagonia region in S.A. It is a pretty ambitious undertaking for me, and will be the last serious excursion for awhile, as I will be needing to finnish school and get back into the work force again. My big fat retirement from the State of Alabamastan will only go so far. On an unrelated note, when my wife and I get settled in our new home in Tennessee, I want to sponsor a combination hike/rafting the Ocoee trip for everyone.

Well I am home after roaming the West. Hiked down the Bright Angel Trail, stayed at a dorm at the Phantom Ranch and hiked back up the canyon. My legs are still a little sore. I got on the cancelization list to get the bookings at the ranch. At seven in the morn, they call out the names and we lucked out. Highly reccomended trip!
