BRINGING THE BUZZ BACK TO THEATER IN PHILADELPHIA

TOMMY CHONG

in

“THE MARIJUANA-LOGUES”

Keswick Theatre

Two Shows!

Sat., May 6, 7:30 & 10 PM

The ultimate stoner – TOMMY CHONG – brings the hilarious smash Off-Broadway hit “THE MARIJUANA-LOGUES” to Glenside’s Keswick Theatre for two shows on Sat., May 6, 7:30 & 10 PM. The show is the edgiest theater piece to come to the Philadelphia area this year – written by comedians Arj Barker, Doug Benson (of VH1’s Best Week Ever) and Tony Camin, and directed by Jim Millan.

“THE MARIJUANA-LOGUES” is an evening of slide splitting humor that has a nation buzzing. Following a string of TV appearances from coast to coast including The Tonight Show to Howard Stern, Chong lights up the live theater stage with his unique perspective on life. From hazy to highbrow, “THE MARIJUANA-LOGUES” proves that the stories surrounding the bud are as varied as those who indulge.

Tommy Chong is best known for his legendary contribution to American counterculture with the comedy team Cheech & Chong and most recently from his reoccurring role on That 70’s Show. Many people consider watching “Cheech and Chong’s Up in Smoke” a rite of passage for potheads.

In 2003, Chong’s high profile made him an enemy of the Bush administration's war on drugs and landed him in prison – for the distribution of bongs and glass pipes. Tommy emerged from his incarceration not only a figure of America's countercultural past but a symbol of civil liberty as well. “THE MARIJUANA-LOGUES” was originally scheduled to be at the Keswick in March 2005, but Chong had to cancel his tour because audience members at his first few national tour dates kept throwing joints onto the stage, violating the terms of his parole.

During Cheech and Chong’s reign, they recorded six gold comedy albums, including the 1974 Grammy winner Los Cochinos, and starred in seven films, most of which Chong co-wrote and directed such as Up in Smoke, one of Warner Brothers’ highest grossing features.

The Associated Press raves, “The Marijuana-Logues lights up NYC! Emitting an air that is slightly subversive and laughter-inducing.”

Newsday adds, “A good time, man.”

Entertainment Weekly praises the show as “premium quality nuggets.”

Time Out New York raves “it’s a damn fine piece of bong-fueled theater.”

Tickets are $31.50 and available at the Keswick box office or 24-hour phone charge at (215) 572-7650. For more information and online tickets, visit the Keswick at www.keswicktheatre.com. Find “THE MARIJUANA-LOGUES” on the web at www.marijuanalogues.com.

(Disclaimer: This production does not glorify drug use. Rather, it illustrates that cannabis culture is a thing of substance, humor and creativity).

Chong was here doing it last year in NYC, Geo. I wanted to go see it, but never managed to catch it. It's supposed to be really funny!

I saw Tommy Chong. He wasn't very funny and kind of just came off as the old burnout. This may be funnier though.

I worked a Cheech and Chong concert at U of South Florida circa 1976. They were freakin' hilarious!

I loved their old stuff which is why I went to see him a few years back. It was kind of like pulling out Led Zepplin's Houses of the Holy after 10 years, playing it once and then putting it away agian. It was just better back then.

Tommy played guitar with Bobby Taylor And The Vancouvers in the mid '60s.

Check out the pictures from '68.

Jimi Hendrix played with them briefly before going to New York.

My favorite Cheech and Chong memory is going to see one of their movies at a drive-in (Nice Dreams?).

A couple with a station wagon full of kids parked near us. We were really wondering what kind of parents would bring their kids to a reefer movie.

You should have seen how fast that station wagon tore out of there about two minutes into the movie. I guess they had no idea what it was about.

Don't tell George Hamilton, the forever tanned actor, that he's washed up at 66 years old. He's got his tan, whether it's fake or real and his dyed black hair and did a pretty decent job of being a contestant on "Dancing With The Stars".

I couldn't believe when he said his dancing would be a bit off, because he fell off a yacht or some such story. The guy is still suave, but became annoying towards the end of the show and after it was over too. After he lost on the show, he told everyone to give his votes to this other girl dancer. I don't think that was fair to the other dancers that were participating, but it was a show where the winners were determined by judges and by voters so a person could win if they were likeable, even if they were not the best dancers.

I'd like to go see Tina and Tony's Wedding. It's been on Broadway in New York, don't know if it's still there, but it is in B.C. which is just a few hours away.

The have a real/fake wedding in a church, then everyone walks down the street to the reception where there is a real buffet dinner, complete with antipasto, pasta and dessert. You can mix with the actors and actresses. It sounds like a lot of fun.

I don't often find myself in agreement with John Stossel, but he's on the money here:

"Americans also have a hefty demand for Mexican beer, but there are no "Mexican beer cartels." When Obama visits France, he doesn't consult with politicians about "wine violence." What's happening on the Mexican border is prohibition-caused violence."
