I think ALL donations should be listed on the Candidate's Internet Site. They should be updated DAILY and available for search. That way if Ye'Chong UYk who makes $8,000 a year washing tables gives $1,000 to a candidate we can all know.

Say failure to register a donation is worth....oh lets do it on electoral college votes....(LOL)

CQ TODAY MIDDAY UPDATE
Feb. 20, 2008 12:31 p.m.
Former Rep. Ney Transferred to Halfway House

Former Rep. Bob Ney, R-Ohio, convicted in a corruption probe tied to former lobbyist Jack Abramoff, has been released from a minimum security federal prison in Morgantown, W.Va., and transferred to a halfway house.

Officials said Wednesday he will serve out his 30-month sentence at a halfway house at an undisclosed location.

Ney, a former chairman of the House Administration Committee, resigned from the House Nov. 3, 2006, after pleading guilty Oct. 13, 2006, to making false statements and conspiracy to commit fraud. The charges arose from his ties to disgraced lobbyist Jack Abramoff, who is also in federal prison. Ney admitted receiving lavish gifts from Abramoff in return for political favors.

The U.S. Bureau of Prisons said Ney will be released from the bureaus custody on Aug. 16, and he could be transferred to home confinement in Ohio before then. That release date depends on Ney continuing to compile good time credit.

Ney reported to the Morgantown prison to begin his sentence March 1, 2007. While there, he has participated in an alcoholism rehabilitation program.

Ney represented the sprawling 18th District in eastern and southern Ohio for six terms. Democrat Zack Space won the seat in the 2006 elections.

Boehner presses Renzi to resign
By Jackie Kucinich
Posted: 02/22/08 03:32 PM [ET]

House Minority Leader John Boehner (R-Ohio) is urging indicted Rep. Rick Renzi (R-Ariz.) to resign.

I have made it clear that I will hold our members to the highest standards of ethical conduct, Boehner said in a statement Friday. The charges contained in this indictment are completely unacceptable for a member of Congress, and I strongly urge Rep. Renzi to seriously consider whether he can continue to effectively represent his constituents under these circumstances. I expect to meet with Rep. Renzi at the earliest possible opportunity to discuss this situation and the best option for his constituents, our Conference, and the American people.

Renzi, who is not seeking reelection, was indicted Friday on 35 counts of extortion, money laundering, wire fraud and other charges.

Senate Chairmen Call for HUD Secretarys Resignation

Two key senators called Friday for Housing and Urban Development Secretary Alphonso R. Jackson to resign for refusing to answer their questions on allegations of wrongdoing in public housing contracts.

Sen. Christopher J. Dodd , D-Conn., chairman of the Banking, Housing and Urban Affairs Committee, and Sen. Patty Murray , D-Wash., chair of the Appropriations Subcommittee on Transportation, Housing and Urban Development, said Jackson has continually refused to respond to direct questions about allegations of wrongdoing and has also not adequately responded to written inquiries.

Secretary Jackson has repeatedly demonstrated that he is not in the position to provide the type of leadership that is necessary during these trying and difficult times, Dodd said in a statement, adding, I do not believe Secretary Jackson is capable of effectively carrying out his responsibilities and the responsibilities of the Department of Housing and Urban Development.

Jackson is facing allegations of corruption and cronyism in contracts awarded at public housing authorities in New Orleans, Philadelphia and the Virgin Islands.

Jackson also previously claimed to have rescinded the contract of a person who was not a supporter of President Bush, and has allegedly advised his senior staff to improperly take political affiliation into account in awarding contracts.

We are in the midst of a national housing crisis, said Murray, whose subcommittee funds HUD spending. The allegations of cronyism and favoritism against Secretary Jackson are a worsening distraction at HUD at a time when we must have a credible housing secretary that is beyond suspicion. It is time for Secretary Jackson to go.

Typical:
DAYTON, Ohio -- One of the chairmen of a Republican fundraiser Thursday featuring President Bush was convicted of laundering campaign money.

William Gunlock pleaded no contest in 1993 and was found guilty of misdemeanor charges accusing him of attempting to conceal contributions to the Franklin County Republican Party in Columbus.

Prosecutors say he gave $12,000 to employees of his property appraisal business and asked them to write checks to the GOP in their names. The money was used in the campaign of former Franklin County Auditor Palmer McNeal, whose office had granted Gunlock's company millions of dollars in unbid contracts for property appraisals and a mapping project.

Gunlock, who was fined $30,000, is one of 10 chairmen of the private luncheon fundraiser at the home of other donors in suburban Bellbrook. People attending pledged $1,000, and those who donate or commit to raise $10,000 are invited to a private reception with Bush.

The money will be used to support Republican candidates running for office in 2008.

Here you make the call

The 1996 United States campaign finance controversy was an alleged effort by the People's Republic of China to influence domestic American politics prior to and during the Clinton administration and also involved the fund-raising practices of the administration itself.

While questions regarding the U.S. Democratic Party's fund-raising activities first arose over a Los Angeles Times article published on September 21, 1996,[1] China's alleged role in the affair first gained public attention when Bob Woodward and Brian Duffy of The Washington Post published a story stating that a United States Department of Justice investigation into the fund-raising activities had uncovered evidence that agents of China sought to direct contributions from foreign sources to the Democratic National Committee (DNC) before the 1996 presidential campaign. The journalists wrote that intelligence information had shown the ChineseEmbassy in Washington, D.C. was used for coordinating contributions to the DNC[2] in violation of United States law forbidding non-American citizens or non-permanent residents from giving monetary donations to United States politicians and political parties. A Republican investigator of the controversy stated the Chinese plan targeted both presidential and congressional United States elections, while Democratic Senators said the evidence showed the Chinese targeted only congressional elections. The Chinese government denied all accusations.

Twenty-two people were eventually convicted for fraud or for funneling Asian funds into the United States elections. A number of the convictions came against longtime Clinton-Gore friends and political appointees.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/1996_United_States_campaign_finance_controversy

OR

Not a month after the Norman Hsu flap (and eleven years after the Chinese government supposedly tried to help finance Bills reelection), Hillary is on the defensive about taking money from Chinese immigrant benefactors. This time, it looks even more awkward. As the L.A. Times reported late last week, the candidates fund-raising swing through the Chinese community of New York resulted in $500 to $2,300 donations from people identified as dishwashers, waiters and street stall hawkers. Of the 150 donors on paper, 50 couldnt be located, and at least one openly says he hasnt contributed to the campaign. An April fund-raiser in a poor neighborhood fetched $380,000.

Just DAMN http://www.hillaryproject.com/index.php?/en/story-details/hmm_chinese_dishwashers_gave_hillary_thousands/
