FIVE YEARS they knew he was a sexual predator but did nothing about it, just to protect a seat. These #&%!$ing Republicans don't care about anything but power.” - rev

Again - how is that different than Studds admitting to being a pedophile sexual predator and staying in office for another 13 years with the dem leadership blessings?

LOL...I think both sides show remarkable PARTY loyalty. When the hint even HIT that Nixon was under indictment the Republicans at that time knew they could head off impeachment but instead they went to Nixon and told him he was on his own. He resigned with more class then the next guy who got impeached.

Reynolds Rap

Claim: An ex-congressman who had sex with a subordinate won clemency from a president who had sex with a subordinate, then was hired by a clergyman who had sex with a subordinate.

Status: True.

Example: [Collected on the Internet, 2001]

Jessie Jackson has added former Chicago democratic congressman Mel Reynolds to the Rainbow/PUSH Coalition's payroll. Reynolds was among the 176 criminals excused in President Clinton's last-minute forgiveness spree. Reynolds received a commutation of his six-and-a-half-year federal sentence for 15 convictions of wire fraud, bank fraud & lies to the Federal Election Commission. He is more notorious; however, for concurrently serving five years for sleeping with an underage campaign volunteer.

This is a first in American politics: An ex-congressman who had sex with a subordinate won clemency from a president who had sex with a subordinate, then was hired by a clergyman who had sex with a subordinate.

His new job? Youth counselor.......

.....
January 2001: Just before leaving office, President Clinton (at the urging of Jesse Jackson, among others) commuted the sentence of former Illinois congressman Mel Reynolds, who had spent 30 months in a state prison for having sex with a 16-year-old campaign volunteer and was serving a five-year sentence in federal prison for lying to obtain loans and illegally diverting campaign money for personal use.

January 2001: The Chicago Sun-Times reported that former congressman Mel Reynolds would be working as the community development director of Salem Baptist Church in south-side Chicago, and as a consultant for Jesse Jackson's Rainbow/PUSH Coalition, trying to decrease the number of young African-Americans going to prison. (Reynolds' position would be more accurately characterized as that of an advisor on prison reform rather than a "Youth counselor," however.)

Separated at Birth?

Fifty years from now, when historians write about the social problem of sexual predators in early 21st Century America, they will put a photo of Cardinal Bernard Law next to a photo of Republican Speaker of the House Dennis Hastert.

These are men who had the chance to protect our children, but chose to protect a predator instead.

They did more than just fail as leaders–they endangered our families.

Yeah there's plenty of scumbaggery on both sides of the aisle. It really showcases violin's lack of credibility when he makes a big point of affecting one-sided moral outrage.

Back to DU, violin, where you can join in their demonizing John Walsh for not renouncing Foley: Click Me

Let missing children remain missing and keep anyone featured on America's Most Wanted free, they are probably fake anyways. Boycott the Center and AMW, if you see a missing child or see a person featured on AMW, DON'T REPORT IT, no matter how big a reward is or wheather foul play is suspected on the child or how dangerous the assailant is. We will call this movement OPERATION NOT OUR PROBLEM! That will be a real effective protest against that repug Walsh!!!!

(Seems there's plenty of scumbaggery among violin's friends, too.)

Reformed Lurker - As you can see, the games of gotcha played by Dems and Republicans get tiresome.

I admit, the "gotcha" games do have a point and probably motivate people to behave better, knowing there could be a scandal. Still, I'd love it if both parties spent more time solving problems than trying to make each other look bad and get the maximum advantage each time the other screws up.

one-sided moral outrage

LMAO! That's the ol' vile boy to a T!

Stupid administration
Heard a piece on the radio this morning.

Bureau of Prisons is responsible for monitoring every piece of mail sent by or to terrorists held in prison.

The piece specifically cited a supermax facility that holds a couple of big name folks.

In an audit of their performance they were reading less than 2% of the mail.

These are KNOWN terrorists. Communicating directly, via written word with other KNOWN or supsected terrorists.

There is strong reason to believe that some of the folks already behind bars played a significant role in the Madrid bombings . ..through mail correspondence. That we were supposed to be monitoring.

So let me get this straight. Dumbbutt Bush wants the right to pull random phone signal traffic between here and suspect countries out of the air and monitor it for suspicious content.

But he can't even manage to read the mail of KNOWN, CONVICTED and IMPRISONED terrorists.

The Bureau of Prisons claims it has neither the budget, nor staff (translators and code breakers) to handle the email volume.

So again . ..Bush's priority is to grab random inter-country phone calls . . . instead of at least squaring away communications between and from known terrorists.

Stupid A$$.

Sure . ..the repulicans have lock on the terrorism stuff. Sure I feel MUCH safer with that clown in the oval office.

Get your freaking heads out of your butts people.

he and his admin are a disaster.

PS: DOn't pull the "libbies are whining b/c we aren't reading mail . . .but they also whine when we listen to phone calls." crap.

its apples and oranges. The monitoring of communciations of known felons while they are behind bars is an accepted long standing practice . .think Mafia or gangs.

These are folks IN JAIL. Tried and convicted. Not random folks talking to their relatives in Turkey or Jordan.

So don't bother trying to run that crap up the flag pole.

Stovie . .LOLOLOLOLOLOLOOLOLLOLLOOOOO

Bush continues to use fear as his primary campaign tactic.

"If the people of Arizona and the people the United States don't think we ought to be listening in on the conversations of people who can do harm to the United States, then go ahead and vote for the Democrats," Bush said.

"If you want to make sure that those on the front line protecting you have the tools necessary to do so, you vote Republican for the safety of the United States."...

"We believe strongly that we must take action to prevent attacks from happening in the first place," Bush said "They view the threats we face like law enforcement, and that is, we respond after we're attacked. And it's a fundamental difference, and I will travel this country the next five weeks making it clear the difference."

should i post the herman goering quote again, or has it gotten through to everyone already? i think i will.

"Of course the people don't want war. But after all, it's the leaders of the country who determine the policy, and it's always a simple matter to drag the people along whether it's a democracy, a fascist dictatorship, or a parliament, or a communist dictatorship. Voice or no voice, the people can always be brought to the bidding of the leaders. That is easy. All you have to do is tell them they are being attacked, and denounce the pacifists for lack of patriotism, and exposing the country to greater danger."

-- Herman Goering at the Nuremberg trials

Candidate touts sex with Packers in campaign

MADISON, Wisconsin (AP) -- Sex! The Green Bay Packers! Sex WITH the Green Bay Packers!

The usually ho-hum race for Wisconsin secretary of state is being spiced up by one candidate's naughty tell-all book about her bed-hopping exploits with Green Bay football legends during the team's glory days under Vince Lombardi in the 1960s.

Sandy Sullivan, a 65-year-old Republican with no political experience, self-published a gushing memoir in 2004 titled "Green Bay Love Stories and Other Affairs" in which she claims she was the girlfriend of Green Bay Packers Paul Hornung and Dan Currie, deflected a pass from Hall of Famer Don Hutson and was on the receiving end of a saucy comment from Richard Nixon.

FBI agents investigating U.S. Rep. Curt Weldon (R., Pa.) conducted six raids this morning - including at the homes of his daughter and a longtime friend.

In all, agents executed four search warrants in Philadelphia and two in Jacksonville, Fla., officials said.

In Center City, agents searched the law office of John Gallagher, a Weldon friend who has done extensive business in Russia and former Soviet Republics.

In Media, Pa., agents searched the offices of public relations firm formed by Weldon's longtime friend Charles P. Sexton Jr., and the congressman's daughter, Karen. Sexton and Karen Weldon formed Solutions North America, in 2002, and won $1 million in contracts from two Russian energy firms and a Serbian family with ties to Slobodan Milosevic. The Jacksonville, Fla., offices of that firm, Itera, were also raided by FBI agents today. The Philadelphia raids began early this morning. Shortly before noon, FBI agents left Karen Weldon's three-story brick house on Queen Street in Philadelphia carrying armfuls of boxes. A government car pulled into the alley to the back door of the house and loaded boxes into it. Three agents standing in an alley - members of the FBI's public corruption squad - declined to identify themselves.
[...]
Around noon today, a group of 17 protestors arrived outside Weldon's district office in Upper Darby, carrying signs and the kind of foam hands usually seen at sporting events to proclaim "Number One." But these rose-colorded hands said "Caught Red-Handed." "This is the first time time I've come out and done something like this," said Judy Voet of Rose Valley. "This Congress is just so corrupt."

WASHINGTON — Former FDA chief Lester Crawford will plead guilty for failing to disclose a financial interest in companies his agency regulated, his lawyer said Monday.

The Justice Department accused the former head of the Food and Drug Administration with falsely reporting that he had sold stock in companies when he continued holding shares in the firms governed by FDA rules.

voter warning linked to GOP

LOS ANGELES - A Republican congressional candidate said Thursday that he was not personally involved in sending a letter warning Hispanic immigrants they could go to jail or be deported if they vote next month, a mailing that prompted a state investigation.

I wonder if wanderer will be man enough to apologize to Hiker Boy after reading this?:

GARDEN GROVE, Calif. - Orange County Republican leaders on Thursday called for the withdrawal of a GOP congressional candidate who has acknowledged that his campaign sent a letter threatening Hispanic immigrant voters.

County Republican Chairman Scott Baugh told The Associated Press that the party's executive committee voted unanimously to ask candidate Tan D. Nguyen to pull out.

Earlier Thursday, Nguyen said in an interview that he has fired a campaign staffer who may have been the source of a letter that falsely told Hispanics that immigrants can go to jail if they try to vote.

"I did not do this. I did not approve of any letter," said Nguyen, the challenger to Democratic U.S. Rep. Loretta Sanchez. Nguyen is a Vietnamese immigrant whose opposition to illegal immigration figures heavily in his underdog campaign.

State and federal officials are investigating the mailing for possible violations of election law.

Baugh said that after speaking with the state attorney general's office and the private company that distributed the mailer, he believes Nguyen had direct knowledge of the letter.

"I learned information that allows me to draw the conclusion that not only was Mr. Nguyen's campaign involved in this, but that Mr. Nguyen was personally involved in expediting the mailer," Baugh said in a telephone interview. He called the letter "obnoxious and reprehensible."

Interesting that Rangel should be the one to point this out:

"Seriously, one of the reasons you're not seeing Democrats getting indicted in corruption scandals is that we've been out of the loop."

http://www.rollingstone.com/politics/story/12053713/the_low_post_congress_will_suck_no_matter_whos_in_power

It reminds me of the old line, "My opponent has been plundering the public treasury for 20 years. It's time someone else had a turn."

Definitely there is no squeaky clean party in the US which has any chance of getting into power. It's one reason I vote third party (Libertarian, Green, Social Workers) from time to time - basically as a protest against both parties. In my State, the Democrats have long been the most corrupt, because they have the most power. Republicans are begining to catch up because they've had the govenor's office for 2o years, but the local Dems are dirtier.
