Mac OS10 HELLView MessagesViewing posts 1 to 11 of 11 messages posted.
AAARRRGGGHHH!!! “Boss installed OS 10 on my Mac yesterday afternoon. Then he had to "run," not really explaining much. I tried to go to my old Outlook Express e-mail. Couldn't find anywhere. I needed it for e-mailed stories needing editing for another of our publications. So I click on a couple different OEs. A totally new OE opens, with the requisite welcome message. (oh did that just overwrite my old OE??!??! AAAAAACCCKKK!!!!) I am not finding anything from OE! There had been an alias on my desk with OS9. That said the original program it was created from could not be found. I ditched the alias. Today I'm talking with him by phone and he can't figure anything out. He doesn't think it's been overwritten, just a case of finding the file. (Have I said AAAAACKKKK yet??!?? oh yeah, i have) I have a headache and I'm POed! CRAP! That address book could have been copied and saved somehow. WTF??!? So.... anyone have any idea where my old OE address book is???! What to look under? I did find a couple files with file extensions on them (which seems weird for a Mac. I'd also appreciate the messages, but absolutely the address book with all kinds of secret phone numbers etc in it that I've saved for 5 years -- plus e-mail addies I don't know) .... I could have backed this up so easy ahead of time. I HAVE A PORTABLE HARD DRIVE!!!!!! Crap” 12:41:19 PM 3/23/06 “If your boss did things correctly, there should be a folder in your hard drive named "Application (MAC OS9)". In it should be all of your old programs. When you open them OS 9 should load up on your computer. It's best to get your data transferred to newer OSX compatible programs as soon as you can, because running both OS's can do bad stuff to your machine.” 1:12:47 PM 3/23/06 “Yeah what lumberzac said, it could also be called classic, it should be on your hard drive right under OS10.” 2:02:16 PM 3/23/06 “Solution to problem: Saw off the boss's fingers.” 2:04:14 PM 3/23/06 “Always back up your data to a media at your office and then one to take home, too. The data may be gone, depending upon how he installed OS X. He should have backed up your machine before he upgraded your machine and un-enhanced your life.” 2:54:30 PM 3/23/06 “Bosses tend to know just enough about computers to be lethal.” 2:55:46 PM 3/23/06 “Ex-freakin-xactly! On the positive side, I just got to take fire photos at a saw dust collector at a hardwood shop. They opened the bottom hopper and nuthin was happenin' Then WHOOSH, huges flames all over for a split second. (I'm sure I said, out loud, holy sheeyat, Jeff is gonna get fried!) Luckily the fireman was looking away and the flames only lasted a second. I showed him when they were putting equipment away. Hmmm... when that runs big in the paper, we'll see if wife and kids want him out there fighting fires! (You see the kind of day I've had that a FIRE is the high point. Did I mention the re-installation of the scanner?!?!? Which didn't work??? A 5-minute scan job for a headshot yesterday. An hour today. PRICELESS...... aaaack!)” 5:28:31 PM 3/23/06 “It's blasphemous to use Outlook Express (or any other type of Microsoft product) on a Mac. The correct solution to your problem is to find your address book on a backup and convert it to the Mac Mail program...” 6:46:19 PM 3/23/06 “Alrighty I was out today, but found tonight my old e-mail imported into Entourage (gotta love the MS products! ;-P) The address book, too! :-)” 6:15:17 PM 3/24/06 WHY DO MACS SUCK SO MUCH? “My boss bought a Mac mini a few months ago and I had to set it up. The set up went fine and I was able to connect to our local network and see all of the other computers on out network (PCs and Macs). None of the settings were changed and now you can connect to any of our office computers Mac or PC. The network icon has also disappeared from the left box when you open up the hard drive. Can anyone make a suggestion as to how I can fix the problem? My solution of throwing the Macs out the window and buying new PC’s isn’t an option.” 7:24:01 AM 4/06/06 “Not sure but Mac/Apple is putting a download out now that will allow Windows to be installed on a Mac/apple computer.” 9:05:08 AM 4/06/06
