I think it's a sobering thought to all of us. Especially since I am guessing that just about any town or zip you put in there is probably going to yield some surprising results...

NO! Although when I was a little league coach last year, they included photos of known child molesters in our info binder, so I knew there were some of those in our town.

I was so happy to see the results. But it is wild to see that a lot of the places I go for my job there are a lot of them. scary stuff and so sad :(

No more than usual around me. Funny, my neighbor is still on that map. He met a girl in a bar and they both wanted some action; turns out she had a fake I.D. to get in the bar in the first place. Turns out she was 15.

clicking on a random square, i see a child molestor who was given four years PROBATION! 2 of which were UNSUPERVISED! WTF?!

i say lets lower the drinking age to 18 in all states, and legalize pot and other "soft" drugs (18 and over only, of course), so we can have more room in our prisons to house the people that REALLY need to be on "time-out"

Most juvenile sex offenders won't be listed. They're in the process of changing that law here in FLorida so they will be listed.

What I like about that particular site is that it includes pictures. However, I checked the sexaul offenders site before moving to the house I'm currently living in and there are far more registered than show up on this particular web site. It IS very scarey.

At our last house, I knew the home of a sexual offender which was directly across the street from the park. I had never seen the man. One day, I had helped the kids put their chain back on their bike and had grease all over my hands. I was rubbing them in the grass when a man approached me with BABY WIPES. I thanked him and watched him return to his home; the offender. I promptly told my children that the "helpful" man was NOT safe and that they were never to talk with him. It's scarey to know a sexual offender keeps baby wipes in his house and that he was obviously observing the park from his home.

Photos of sex offenders should be posted.

But just a thought; a 16 year old boy dates a 14 year old girl. When he turns 18....they're still dating. One day he has an argument with her parents. They turn him in because he's dating a 16 year old. He's now considered a child molester because she's underaged. His life is ruined. I believe this scenario have happened quite a few times. Any recourse for them?

According to the web site:

"Unfortunately, Nevada, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, and Vermont do not currently provide addresses for registered sex offenders."

...and why not?!?!?!

These are only registered sex offenders. What about unregistered creeps? No telling how many might live near you.

The registered...the unregistered...how bout the ones that haven't gotten caught yet or will never get caught? Those are pretty scary as well!

My opinion is that once someone is caught molesting a child, it should be automatic life in prison. I don't know the statistics, but I think there are more child molesters out there than there are murderers.

I heard this program last Sunday.

http://www.justicetalking.org/viewprogram.asp?progID=542

One of the people in the discussion was from Genreration Five.

http://www.generationfive.org/

The question of why the U.S. has so much of this violence/abuse going on was raised.
It seems that we are a nation that traditionally solves problems with violence and it translates to the family.
Our culture is part of the problem it seems.
MarkO

Hmm. Not sure I agree with that, MarkO....it might explain some forms of violent sexual abuse (I think it's a stretch though) but doesn't (IMHO) explain the sickos that think of it as "child love" and that there's nothing wrong with it.

Also, there are countries out there that could be thought of as non-violent nations yet an act like this would cause one to have an appendage lopped off.

Looked at the map and was surprised to see a large number in my area. Very scary.

NC, they talk of sexual abuse as violent control of another person.
Whether or not the victim is physically injured it is violence in any case. Taking "charge" of another's person and doing with them as one pleases is violence.

The question of why the U.S. has so much of this violence/abuse going on was raised.

The answer is: why are so many other country underreporting it?

"The answer is: why are so many other country underreporting it?”
That's a question Sarge, not an answer.

Would that be like other countries "under-reporting" their obesity problems?

But seriously, the woman from Generation Five had interesting things to say.

America's social problems concern me more than problems or lack of problems in other countries.

Fewer incedents of abuse in societies similar to our own makes me wonder what "we" are doing wrong.
MarkO

Fine. Fool yourself.

The fact is it's human nature and you're not going to find your solution by throwing tax payer money at the problem and by criticizing America.

The solution comes from teaching your children right from wrong and by giving them the moral standard by which to live by and by throwing out this notion that everything is relative and that humans make the law and determine what is ethical behavior.

What "we" are doing wrong is throwing out the one true God from "our" lives.

I'm criticizing the problem, professor.
You're just using this as yet another excuse to bash your fellow citizens whom you HATE.

"The solution comes from teaching your children right from wrong and by giving them the moral standard by which to live by and by throwing out this notion that everything is relative and that humans make the law and determine what is ethical behavior.

Don't tell me how to raise my kids, numb-nutz!

Humans do make the law, etc.

Stop preaching, reverend!!

Back to seriousness.....
I like the way these people were talking about doing more about the problem than just locking people up.
That is to say, work on the social issues that give rise to the problem as well as lock up the offenders and warn citizens of their location.

I'm not telling you how to do anything, name-caller. I'm giving my opinion as to the solution to the problem. If you only want to hear your opinion, don't read any others. Millions of people think like I do MarkO, and your name-calling and trying to shut us up isn't going to make us go away. WE believe your solutions are counter-productive, hateful, and your immature response demonstrates the mentality used to form such an opinion.

There ya go, being nasty again.

"I'm giving my opinion as to the solution to the problem."

And what was that again?

You manage to interject your belief in an omnipotent supreme being who will solve our earthly problems, and.........

"The solution comes from teaching your children right from wrong and by giving them the moral standard by which to live by...."

We've got a freakin' Einstein here!!

"WE believe your solutions are counter-productive...."

I have no solution, stinky.

You respond with more of your stock "answers" and attacks on the dreaded liberals.

Anyway....
The Justice Talking program was interesting and I like the idea of trying to solve the problem of domestic violence in five generations.
That's not to say it will work.
