Chili, she is already a keeper. I justdon't want her falling out along the trail somewhere. I would hate to leave her just laying there..lol

Put her in a big yellow parka and go for help. That's what Jackstraw told me he would do for me my first trip or two. LOL. I'm still here.

I plan on arriving Friday afternoon at Grayson Highlands state park and park at the overnight parking area. Take the AT spur trail to intersect the AT and take a left....you are now south bound along the AT. Continue south bound for a mile and step through the gated fence into Mt Rogers Recreation area. You can take the springs trail from there or continue along the AT south bound and drop down into our camp area. Stokley I will send you a map.

Headed on a trip next week there. I'm starting at 421 in TN this Sunday and hiking to Greyson Highlands. Meeting up with Creek Dancer at the end of the week and ending at Mt Roders HQ at the end of the weekend. Should still be a lot of tasty berries still there.

Trip Report
Arrived at Mt Rogers Outfitters Thursday night, just as a torential downpour was taking place... Stood under an awning on 3rd st and watched as the whole block had a blackout due to lightening.. It only lasted a few seconds, but it was kind of surreal.

Friday shuttled up to Dickey Gap.. Hit the trail at 8:20 and proceeded south on the AT... Got to The Pine MOuntain Trail Junction and saw the first of many ponies.

We had been picking at blue berries and black berries all morning, but just north of Scales we hit the mother load!!!! Man were they good!!!

Reached scales at 1:15 having banged out 14 miles... Now the choice was, keep going, or relax.. We chose the latter and it turned out to be a big mistake...

With gorgeous weather, we hung out, talked to several hikers and just chilled for the rest of the day..

Saturday we awoke to rain, and mist and fog, and for 20 miles thats all we saw.. it never stopped raining... No views at Rhod. Gap and we were 20 yrds from buzzard rock beforer we saw it. There were however, berries EVERYWHERE!!!!! And ponies... I think I saw more ponies on Saturday then on any other day that I have been there.. They were everywhere!!

We made it too Lost Mountain Shelter at 5pm, soaking wet, and were joined there by two other hikers.

Sunday we got a 7:00 am start and with good weather hammered out the ramaining 16 miles to Damascus, hitting the outfitters at 12:30..

Looking back, I wish that we had kept going on Friday, as we would have made it to at least Rho Gap and seen the views. All in all though, except for the weather on Saturday, it was an awesome trip!!

What were the temps like?

Nemster, they varied, depending on altitude, weater we were in shade or sun, and weather there was cloud covering or not..

I dont get cold easy, so I was in a t-shirt the whole time... On sunday I was in scivies and a t-shirt and was hot.... I think it was 80 in damascus when we got back...

I was good with a 40 bag, in fact a little too toasty on Saturday night...

I would recommend good rain gear, 40 degress bag and maybe your lightest lond sleeved and long legger base layer...

I had my patagonia capilene 1's tops and bottoms and they were fine....

You just never know what you will encounter there....

On Sat, they were predicting 30percent chance of t storms and we had rain all day..

Parking at Dickey Gap...

I have been looking at books, maps and white blaze trying to see about parking at Dickey Gap.... It probably would just be for a day... not overnight... anyone familiar with this area..

Im looking to do a day hike from Mount Rogers Headquarters to Dickey Gap before CREEK DANCERS BIRTHDAY HIKE...
