Some hiking pics around Lake George (ADK )View MessagesViewing posts 1 to 12 of 12 messages posted.
“Because I’m far too lazy to type up a full trip report, I thought I’d share some photos I took over the past two weekends in the Lake George area. The first set were taken on a loop from the Hog Town parking area over Sleeping Beauty, to Fishbrook Pond, around the back side of Erebus Mountain where we lost the connecting trail back to Bumps Pond and ended up hiking down to Shelving Rock Road, and followed the road back to our cars. The second set, are from across the lake along the Tongue Mountain peninsula. Taui looks like a happy dog. Very interesting name too.” 10:41:47 AM 3/30/06 “Taui, pronounced like Howie with a "T", is short for Tahawus (Sherpaman would have to explain the spelling difference), which is another name for Mount Marcy. It means, “Cloud Splitter.”” 11:10:54 AM 3/30/06 “Cool pics! Who are all those strapping young men? Is Sherpaman a TTer?” 1:49:18 PM 3/30/06 “He lurks from time to time, but I don't think he has ever posted. Hey Lyra The mountains along the horizon that you can just barely make out in this picture are in your neck of the woods, although farther north of you. http://community.webshots.com/photo/548909724/2658420750048978467mhhipp” 2:01:54 PM 3/30/06 “Shut up! Yeah I checked mapquest, says Lake George is only an hour and a half away from me or so. Cool beans!” 2:24:57 PM 3/30/06 “Nice lumberzac. I've done some hiking on the Tongue. We used to spend some time during the summer in Silver Bay when the kids were younger.” 2:29:56 PM 3/30/06 “The Tounge Mtn loop is a blast!” 9:03:52 PM 3/30/06 “I would never do (especially camp)tongue mtn in warm weather because I am paranoid of rattlesnakes, having been nailed once. Tongue Mtn is LOADED in summer. The leaves rustle & my heart skips a beat. I hiked the "other" side of Lake George on Buck (where there weren't supposed to be rattlers) & we saw a big'on. On the islands too. It is a gorgeous lake though.” 1:44:44 AM 3/31/06 “Nice. I spent three summers going to camp on Lake George at Camp Adirondack. We visited Ft. Ticonderoga every year. We took two-week canoe trips down the lake and camped on islands. I had some of my first backpacking experiences there as a young boy. We climbed Bear Mountain. We took a two-week trip and climbed Mt. Marcy. I have fond memories of that area.” 5:51:55 AM 3/31/06
