Nisqually National Wildlife RefugeView MessagesViewing posts 1 to 1 of 1 messages posted.
“Right off I-5 at exit 114 in Washington is a nice dayhike at the Nisqually Nat'l Wildlife Refuge. This is where the Nisqually River ends as a delta at the Puget Sound. The 5 1/2 mile loop trail called Brown Farm Dike Trail is a level walk around wetlands and marshes which protect many types of migratory birds. Today under cloudy skies that threatened rain, but never did, I visited this place for the first time. Things were still a little brown, but pink salmonberry blossoms and yellow skunk cabbage added some spots of color. Got to see geese, ducks, herons, sandpipers, grebes, red-winged blackbirds, swallows, and a few others. Also got to enjoy the sound of explosions of cannon fire from nearby Fort Lewis. $3 entrance fee per family. last edited: 3/30/06 8:52:45 PM” 8:47:30 PM 3/30/06
