Maybe all kids are magically connected by midi-clorians and he "sensed" the danger.

"So what we're talking about, ... the dude in the article ... is Violin? This happened to his kid and his "keen" sense sensed what was happening?"

NO, Violin simply stated that if that was his kid he would "leap" to her defense.
Violin did not pass judgement on the guy, but YOU certainly "leaped" to the guy's defense.

I was siding with the courts in that he didn't do anything sexually to her, even though he had to pay a penalty as a sexual predator.

You guys think that's ok? Wow! I'm surprised even for you guys.

Isn't that what we do? Side with the courts? i.e.: Terri Schiavo.

So in other words having a "keen sense" is not important here? He'd "leap to her defense" in any situation?

I'm confused Marko. What are you saying? That Violin would use his "keen" senses in any given unique situation, or he'd automatically react based on the fact an adult touched her? .. in which case, having a "keen sense" would be irrelevant.

What's going on MarkO? Are you drinking this early? Please make sense. Thank you.

You guys are out-of-control.

Look, he probably should have just yelled at her and NOT grabbed her arm (and incidentialy, nowhere did I read he "chased" her!), that goes without saying.

HOWEVER, the guy shouldn't have his life ruined by being labled a sexual predator for what he did! THAT is the point here. Please, take your ADD medicine & try to stay on task people.

NO!!

And further, I don't think its OK for YOU to paint others as thinking its OK.
Its just more of your loonie trouble-making.
Same stuff, different day, here on Trail Talk.

You gonna dig up Terry Schiavo again??
Using poor Terry to beat on your political enemies is low-down and dirty.
Let the poor girl(politically incorrect, or so I'm told) rest in peace......that sorry episode is over.

So in other words having a "keen sense" is not important here? He'd "leap to her defense" in any situation?

Pure speculation.....

Yes, you are confused and making little sense.

So either Fox is embeleshing here a bit, or as y2 said, something aint right. Wish we could get some facts on this case. But then that wouldn't be as much fun for the Troll.

I thought what we were talking about was having this guy labled a sexual predator & having his life turned upside-down just because he grabbed this teenager by the arm to yell at her about being careful in traffic.

We ARE NOT talking about having, or not having, a law that stops people from getting out of their car & grabbing children. We're talking about the BS of having this guy being called a sexual predator for his actions.

And why do you think the law is so whacko to begin with, CB? That is the point here, the PC police have gone overboard and we have whacko laws all over the books like this.

You appear to be focussed on this one case as if it's an isolated situation, whereas many others are looking at this as a good example of the wackiness that follows letting the leftie-loonies write our laws.

Trial Judge Patrick Morse ordered registration reluctantly, acknowledging it was "more likely than not" Barnaby only intended to chastise the girl. "I don't really see the purpose of registration in this case. I really don't," Morse said. "But I feel that I am constrained by the statute."
...
The appellate court agreed it was "unfair for [Barnaby] to suffer the stigmatization of being labeled a sex offender when his crime was not sexually motivated," however it sided with the state's attorney who argued it is "the proclivity of offenders who restrain children to also commit sex acts or other crimes against them."

"It is [Barnaby's] actions which have caused him to be stigmatized, not the courts," reads the decision.

It honestly scares me when I read about crap like this... it could be me, one of my friends, neighbors or kids next to suffer because of inequities such as this. Then when I read TT'rs, who I'm sure probably represent, statistically, the masses, make decsions without reading the facts, or jump to conclusions, then it becomes very clear that this could happen to anyone of us tomorrow afternoon and we'd have very little recourse.

I blame the "dumbing down" of America for this, we can clearly see the inability too many here have to employ critical thinking skills.

wanderer, I posted that the judge and jury believed him because that is what the article said. What I still don't understand is if they the jury believed him why did they find him quilty? That doesn't make sense. The jury comes back with a not guilty and it is over. Did the judge overrule the jury? I still think something is missing.

Funny how the conservatives have a lock on all three branches of government but somehow they let those crazy liberals craft all the laws.

It is not an 'article' wanderer. It is an opinion piece and is light on facts. There is other information about the case available if you'll look.

This was an Appellate level decision. My hunch is that they heard more facts that we have.

He was acquitted of attempted kidnapping and child abduction charges but convicted of unlawful restraint. You can assume what his intentions were all you want.

It seems to me that the law was sensibly applied in this case, as no one except the defendant knows what his true intent was. He was convicted of the crime of grabbing and holding a minor. As a father of three young girls, I'm glad there are such laws.

I blame the "dumbing down" of America for this, we can clearly see the inability too many here have to employ critical thinking skills - exactly a complete reactionary position taken against a single case where a law has not acted as it was intended. Some people seem incapable of being able to rationalize at all.

other story
Consider what happened to Abby. The toddler wandered from her nursery school, Ready Teddy Go, through a door left open. A bricklayer named Clive Peachey drove past her in his truck. At the inquest, he stated, "I kept thinking I should go back. The reason I didn't was because I thought people might think I was trying to abduct her."

Instead, he assured himself that the parents must be "driving around" and would find her.

if this man let what other people might think of him influence his decision about whether to help a child, then he is partially responsible for her death.

Call if an emotional reaction if you like, mutt.

We have a friend who works at the prison in Avenel NJ for repetitive, compulsive sex offenders. I've heard some stories that would have an emotional impact on just about anyone. Because of the nature of their compulsion, those people are not usually that honest about their motives.

Anyone is free to believe that this guy only grabbed the young girl with the best of intentions. I'll go with the judgement of the court over your knee-jerk reactions any day.
