I have to agree with that. That's why I generally try to stay out of the Fuego threads. There is nastiness that goes on in other threads, but nowhere close to what goes on in the Fuego category.”

“Crazy Mike spoke of this place on my first trip. I found an ad at the local REI mentioning his little band of crazies that hike through the woods. Listening to him and Gforce talk around the fire that night about the first Flordia trip the HPM hosted (it was a big one) won me over.

“My first TT trip was way back in June of 1999 to Mount Rogers. Wow, does that bring back some memories! I think I first found thebackpacker.com late in 1998.

I don't post here nearly as much as I once did. It's got something to do with the fact that I started a computer and network security company last year. I also partnered with someone and started another company in January of this year, mainly doing network and server installations for small-medium sized businesses. Someone recently said to me that it must be great owning my own company, I get to choose when to work. I replied that yes it is great...I get to choose what 60 hours a week I want to work.

I also started volunteering by teaching adaptive skiing this year with the New England Handicapped Sports Association. It's been one of the most personally rewarding experience I've been involved with.

I don't have a lot of free time to post these days, but I do check in from time to time.”

“I think I may be an Old Timer here. I think I actually posted here for about a year before my first TT trip.It use to be the first thing I did when I got to the office and the last thing before I left but now I'm not in the office and work mostly outside. I get around mostly for the trips anymore.I use to be NC HIKER.

My profile says a member since 03/23/00 but that is actually when I changed my name to Spam. I was too stupid to just change my name... I started a new account instead!

“Sarge, I don't even mind some of the negativity associated with some threads and posts, it's the people who change their name to attack people because they are too scared to speak up for themselves that is a problem with this site.

Matt should have a "reveal" day where he let's everyone know the real identities of people are who have gone after others under false identities.

I think I've been around 7 years. I lurked for awhile before I joined. I made quite a few PNW friends that I'm still in contact with and hike with or go to dinner with. Anywone remember Hiker Boy from B.C.? He's still around, but not at this forum. I was just in B.C. and my husband and myself got together with him and his family at his place. Earlier in the year, we went to dinner with him and strider who doesn't really post here so much anymore but is a very active hiker in WA.”
