My Sarge Question

“I said it before and I'll say it again: Buck is right, a lot of you are obsessed with Sarge. And don't deny it. But why? Everybody here had the opportunity to put Sarge on ignore, but---aside from a few of you--chose not to. Why not? If he was so bad, why not ignore him? Maybe he'd go away, right---just like our moms told us? Instead, most of you lurked on the board, waiting for him to say the wrong thing, say something the wrong way, or address somebody in a tone you thought was wrong. Then you'd pounce. Am I right? Of course I am---who else on this board could generate over 150 posts in half a day? He's all these terrible things but no one could ignore him.

Well guess what? I happen to know "Sarge."

Quite a few of you know "Sarge" too.

Many of you have even hiked or camped with "Sarge", you just didn't know it. None of you thought he was a bad guy then. And in reality, he is not a bad guy at all. Those of you who know him would echo that.

An online personna doesn't equal the real person. Most of you already know that because many of you hike together and have seen different sides of each other. I lurked for quite a while before I joined this board and read about all kinds of great hoaxes. Maybe, just maybe, you have all just been through the greatest hoax of all.”

One of the things I like about this board as opposed to most of the other boards out there is that I get to meet like-minded people. And when you have a group of people who actually meet in person, you strip away the anonymity that seems to bring out the worst in people in Internet communities. As long as Sarge -- or anyone else for that matter -- remains anonymous AND is mean spirited or agressive or threatening or judgmental (yes, some of those words might describe how I perceive him), then I don't care for that persona. A goofy or woman-crazed or silly troll doesn't bother me.

If what you say is true, then perhaps I have met him. But every person I have ever hiked with has introduced themself as a TT persona I was familiar with. If "Sarge" has hiked with TTers and chose to keep his cloak of secrecy, my question to him is what do you have to hide that you can't be 100 percent honest with people? Why the drama?












BTW, the more time I spend here, the more I realize that TT would make a great study for a psychology student of a microcosmic society. We are rich with material here.”

“I don't even want to guess at who's who in this ridiculous situation. Frankly, I don't care who Sarge is. All I know is anyone who spends as much time on the internet as this person did, with the strict intentions of playing head games with a group of people, especially if he hiked with them under a different identity, is due for serious therapy and should be bouncing off the walls of a rubber room. Noncom, it's your moral obligation to get this sick muthaphucker some help!

My intent here was to get people to look at themselves before they cast stones. We don't physically burn witches anymore, but we still judge without knowing. Why do we treat a faceless name different than we'd treat a nameless face?

And as far as how he behaved goes, if he wanted to be treated a certain way he should of behaved that same way. He fronted that he had changed and as far as I could see he was only preaching about it in his falsly superior way.
