Looking for suggestions “Fellow backpackers, Looking for suggestions as to what the best spot of the AT is to visit in mid to late august for about a week. Scenery and return access are two biggest concerns. Thanks in advance for all your suggestions!!!!” 4:57:34 AM 4/10/06 Dog included “ALso that it is ok to have a dog.” 5:00:06 AM 4/10/06 “Anywhere from GA to ME? Or do you want to narrow it down a little?” 6:51:37 AM 4/10/06 “got to leave the AT through the Smokies out..no dogs allowed” 8:17:38 AM 4/10/06 “It's bloody hot in Virginia in August. I don't backpack around here that time of year. And unless we start getting some rain, water could be a problem. I guess I would go up north for the coolest weather.” 8:22:46 AM 4/10/06 “I would do something up north or something in higher elevations so it's not hot, like the smokies, roans, mt rogers NRA or the Whites.” 9:40:51 AM 4/10/06 “Prolly Flowerda so it wont be verry hot and skeeter bugs.” 9:47:36 AM 4/10/06 New England “Not too hot in August, but comfortable. All easily accessible thru Boston if you need to fly, or Albany/Montreal/Burlington if you want to do Vermont. Good stuff for late summer...” 11:32:58 AM 4/10/06
