Absolutely agree. My observation is that if you're going into that high end of a tent, spend the extra 100.00 and get something that will save your ass if you need it to (this is in no way a plug for Hilleberg tents).”

The clip is a good tent; I like it as well.

When my Akto is stripped down, it comes in at 1.5 lbs. and provides the same amount of coverage as a tent, save no floor (I use tyvek to put my pad on). The one big draw back to that thing, is that it doesn't vent well in warmer temps.”

“XL - Since I pack the stuff inside my pack inside a silnylon sack (I don't use a pack cover), I just stuff my tarptent on top of the silnylon sack, before closing up the top of the pack. That way I can get everything packed up inside the tent when its raining. That give me more flexibility than using the sack that came with the tent.”

“XL - I use a rectangle of plastic drop-cloth, cut to fit the footprint of my pad as my ground cloth. Its heavy-duty enough that I don't worry about punctures from most things, but its cut to the bare minimum size to keep the weight down. I figure I don't put any weight on the areas nearer the edges of the tent so why carry extra material to "protect" it. Especially since the thick-mil drop cloth is relatively heavy. For a while I was using a Z-Rest along with a Thermarest, so just used the Z-Rest as my ground cloth (multiuse!) by putting it under the tent, but now I'm only using a Big Agnes so I'm back to carrying the ground cloth.

I wouldn't use silnylon for a ground cloth or as a front porch floor. Its easily punctured so wouldn't do well under the tent, and is so dang slippery it would cause problems under the tent and as a porch floor. Try to step on it with wet shoes and you'll be on your butt really quick. My pad slides all over the built-in silnylon floor...I keep meaning to add some stripes of silicon to the bottom of my pad to stop that.”
