I bought a fitted ground cloth for my Sierra D Clip Flashlite so I can just take the fly and poles. 2.5 pound shelter for $35 extra bucks. Unfortunately it doesn't keep Honey in the tent though and she slips out and wanders.” 9:13:47 AM 1/04/07 “Hence the reason for the Tarptent, I am a big fan of tarps, but when Lizzie starts hiking with me...it may be a problem for PUP control.” 9:19:24 AM 1/04/07 “Ignorance isn't pretty. Common sense is required for TarpTent use. They aren't designed or made for people that do not think.” 9:21:32 AM 1/04/07 “"It's all a matter what we're willing to spend for the weight." Absolutely agree. My observation is that if you're going into that high end of a tent, spend the extra 100.00 and get something that will save your ass if you need it to (this is in no way a plug for Hilleberg tents).” 9:22:08 AM 1/04/07 “"They aren't designed or made for people that do not think." So then I take it that you don't tarp? last edited: 1/04/07 9:24:13 AM” 9:23:26 AM 1/04/07 “My only problem with tarp tents is that you don't get the great benefits of a tarp but not so much of the benefits of the tent. So when it calls for it I take the 1 pound sil tarp and when the tent is called for I take the 4 pound Clip Flashlite. I love them both.” 9:30:59 AM 1/04/07 “Q, Q, Q.... There you go showing your ignorance again. LOL” 9:31:43 AM 1/04/07 “"Q, Q, Q.... There you go showing your ignorance again. LOL” StoveStomper" Translation: Drat! Foiled again! ”9:37:48 AM 1/04/07 “Q...don't you have a thesis on precambrian ear wax to write or something?” 9:39:05 AM 1/04/07 “"So when it calls for it I take the 1 pound sil tarp and when the tent is called for I take the 4 pound Clip Flashlite. I love them both." The clip is a good tent; I like it as well. When my Akto is stripped down, it comes in at 1.5 lbs. and provides the same amount of coverage as a tent, save no floor (I use tyvek to put my pad on). The one big draw back to that thing, is that it doesn't vent well in warmer temps.” 9:42:56 AM 1/04/07 “Many people on this site have seen my TarpTents in action. You might try actually backpacking once in awhile, Q. Your ignorance can be cured.” 9:43:21 AM 1/04/07 “LOL..Tarptent in action....shouldn't this be on the Nurse Goodbody is expecting thread?” 9:44:21 AM 1/04/07 “what's the Akto's headroom like? That's the only place where the Clip falls short. If I had to buy another tent today I'd get one of the 4 pound-ish domes.” 9:45:28 AM 1/04/07 “"“Q...don't you have a thesis on precambrian ear wax to write or something?” XL400236" Oh, that was a classic one. But I'm disappointed that you couldn't work a "homo" reference toward me in it. After all, I am an anthropology student. Perhaps you're slipping. Maybe going back to your lame ass "laqtose" #&%!$ will make ya feel all warm and fuzzy.” 9:47:36 AM 1/04/07 “"Many people on this site have seen my TarpTents in action." If they are put together as good as your worthless stoves are, I'll pass.” 9:49:00 AM 1/04/07 “Showing your ignorance again, Q. LOL” 9:49:54 AM 1/04/07 “"what's the Akto's headroom like? " It's alright. Sitting on the sleep pad, I barely have enough room to sit up without brushing my head up against the top of the shelter. I have an older one, and they have made improvements on the design; perhaps they have addressed the issue.” 9:52:23 AM 1/04/07 “Dang, I think this guy could take lessons from this thread. ”9:53:12 AM 1/04/07 “"Showing your ignorance again, Q. LOL” StoveStomper" Showing your arrogance again, DP. LOL The trouble is, "backpacking buddy", your #&%!$ couldn't cut it in a deep situation. You'd never know that, because you're too much of a puss to hike in anything real.” 9:57:49 AM 1/04/07 “LOL @ lumber Silly Q.” 9:59:06 AM 1/04/07 Playa hater's ball baybay! “ ![]() "Bulldog, what can I say about that suit that hasn't already been said about your mother? It's old, tired, wrinkled and it smells funny.".” 10:04:00 AM 1/04/07 “"Silly Q.” StoveStomper" Translation: I got cap put in my ass yet again and have nothing snappy to say back. When will I learn? Tell you what. Why don't you bring your sorry ass up here to Michigan, with all that crap you've made, this February and we'll see how long your ass lasts on the shores of say, Lake Superior. last edited: 1/04/07 10:06:19 AM” 10:04:31 AM 1/04/07 “Got my Rainshadow 2 yesterday (wednesday)....my son asked if we could go hiking the next day (that would be TODAY)...LOL school starts back today. How do you all pack your tent...in the original bag or something more refined?” XL400236 7:53:08 AM 1/04/07 XL, I have the Squall and use the stuff sack that came with it. I just stuff mine while others roll it up and put it back in the sack. to bad threads about gear have to turn into pissing matches.” 10:10:14 AM 1/04/07 “Q, Q, Q... Why should I pay good money to hike with an a$$ like you? Ain't gonna happen. LOL” 10:12:40 AM 1/04/07 Playa Hater's Ball “I'm gonna get out of here. Buck Nasty's mom's water dish needs to be filled up.” 10:13:25 AM 1/04/07 “"Q, Q, Q... Why should I pay good money to hike with an a$$ like you? Ain't gonna happen. LOL”" Translation: I make claims that I can't back up. I'm scared my stuff is too flimsy to hold up under those conditions, so I'll side-step the issue. What a sissy. You know that crap can't hang and you're taking the puss way out. BTW -- I dare you to come up here and prove me wrong. Hell, I triple dog dare you, pu$$y.” 10:16:05 AM 1/04/07 “Q, were you repeatedly dropped on your head as a child? LOL last edited: 1/04/07 10:20:04 AM” 10:19:42 AM 1/04/07 “"“Q, where you repeatedly dropped on your head as a child? LOL” StoveStomper" Coward. At least you've got a pea inside that ugly ass head of yours to know what your limits are, I'll give you that. Stay safe tucked in the south, stovesissy. You leave the real hiking to the people that can handle it.” 10:22:38 AM 1/04/07 “OK, so you were. LOL” 10:23:11 AM 1/04/07 “WOW...Laqtose...you need to get this out of your system...you need to realize it is normally the RICH CONSERVATIVES that are the PATRONS and SUPPORTERS of the Museums. But then again in the ivy covered walls of academia, there are no cares. All day is spent in theoretical postulating about the fantasy world. Thats why most people try to get it out of their system before they get to an age where they have to be productive Citizens. I am actually looking forward to a hike with Stovie, I bet he is a hoot....” 1:47:31 PM 1/04/07 “XL - Since I pack the stuff inside my pack inside a silnylon sack (I don't use a pack cover), I just stuff my tarptent on top of the silnylon sack, before closing up the top of the pack. That way I can get everything packed up inside the tent when its raining. That give me more flexibility than using the sack that came with the tent.” 1:58:09 PM 1/04/07 “Thanks Trek...do you use a ground cloth or anything else....? I was thinking about a small sil nylon tarp (homemade 4x4 or something for a front porch)” 2:17:03 PM 1/04/07 “"WOW...Laqtose...you need to get this out of your system...you need to realize it is normally the RICH CONSERVATIVES that are the PATRONS and SUPPORTERS of the Museums. I am actually looking forward to a hike with Stovie, I bet he is a hoot...." Congrats! No "Homo" comments, or references. As usual, the rest of your post makes no sense what so ever (but you managed a "laqtose". One point deducted for that), but at least you're on the right path to forming some sort of a claim, what ever the hell that might be. No doubt you and Sissystove will get along; two peas in a pod always do. Without Sgt. Moonglo around, sissystove sure has been lonely. I'm sure you'll do you best to "cheer him up" and he'll be in good hands.” 3:16:37 PM 1/04/07 “I think Moon is actually doing something productive in life....LOL...I am finishing up fire reports and clearing out dead files. It must be different ideas of success....for me it is saving lives...for you....it will be (insert FADE MUSIC HERE) THE PLACE - THE Future, the Museum of Natural History, Elkmsmurt North Dakota, Laqtosis is standing there with his child) Child: Daddy what did you do special in your life? Laq: Well honey you see that skeleton over there? Child: Daddy did you discover it? Laq: No Child; Daddy did you work on recovering it? Laq: No Child: so whats so special. Laq: Well I am the one who selected the Hevitica Extra Bold Underline Font for the label. Child: Oh daddy I am so proud,” 3:39:40 PM 1/04/07 “Another turd who uses my son in order to try and burn me. You and Sissystove really are soul mates. lol” 4:08:13 PM 1/04/07 “LOL I see Q ranks right up there with marko as far as smarts goes. Namecalling and homophobia are all either of them have, and on a gear thread at that. LOL” 5:25:37 PM 1/04/07 “XL - I use a rectangle of plastic drop-cloth, cut to fit the footprint of my pad as my ground cloth. Its heavy-duty enough that I don't worry about punctures from most things, but its cut to the bare minimum size to keep the weight down. I figure I don't put any weight on the areas nearer the edges of the tent so why carry extra material to "protect" it. Especially since the thick-mil drop cloth is relatively heavy. For a while I was using a Z-Rest along with a Thermarest, so just used the Z-Rest as my ground cloth (multiuse!) by putting it under the tent, but now I'm only using a Big Agnes so I'm back to carrying the ground cloth. I wouldn't use silnylon for a ground cloth or as a front porch floor. Its easily punctured so wouldn't do well under the tent, and is so dang slippery it would cause problems under the tent and as a porch floor. Try to step on it with wet shoes and you'll be on your butt really quick. My pad slides all over the built-in silnylon floor...I keep meaning to add some stripes of silicon to the bottom of my pad to stop that.” 8:42:37 AM 1/05/07 “Stripes of silicon work. Tyvek makes a great 'porch'.” 8:44:40 AM 1/05/07 “I've used my Virga, Virga2 and Contrail in a wide variety of situations and they were superb. Most recently was in a forest fire in the Boundary Waters. It swept down on us as we slept in our individual shelters. Everyone got all burned up but me.” 8:58:23 AM 1/05/07 “Nimble um I trust you implicitly...but um are you maybe stretching the capability of the Tarptent? (LOL) Then there is that new Taco Bell commercial where the people are trying the super burrito and their friend says "its only 1.99" The guy friend looks up and says, "This from the guy who said HE dropped Carmen Electra..." and they start laughing... you then hear this knocking on the sliding glass door, its Carmen begging their friend to take her back. (LOL)” 9:08:01 AM 1/05/07 “Carmen Electra was in there with me. It was hotter in the tent than without!” 9:20:03 AM 1/05/07 “Nimble is so full of crap! Carmen Electra was with me that night.” 9:22:15 AM 1/05/07 “All I know is that I heard an interview with THE John Holmes where he kept referring to Nigal as his "Bigger brother".” 9:23:53 AM 1/05/07 “I ordered my TarpTent today! Got a Contrail. I've had a hankerin' for some time now and spring is just around the corner. Woooohoooo. Dang, I love gear. I printed out a picture of my new tent and put it up at work over the top of my kids' pictures...err, I mean, next to their pictures. last edited: 2/26/07 12:44:20 PM” 12:42:00 PM 2/26/07 “so does this make you a gear slut?” 12:44:26 PM 2/26/07 “Oh My! Congrads on joining the Henry Shires cult. ;-) Gear Hos, all.” 12:45:41 PM 2/26/07 “LOL, yeah I guess so! At least I am not a gear weenie, like some people around here. hehe last edited: 2/26/07 12:47:34 PM” 12:46:13 PM 2/26/07 “Oh...by the by, Stovie...I used the Tarptent the other weekend...(after adding the no slip stuff)...it is so nice, the best part is when I was setting up, a guy picked up the bag and asked if it was "my tarp" when I told him it was the WHOLE shebang....he was impressed.. Thanks that has to be one of the best purchases I have ever made.” 1:34:58 PM 2/26/07 “I'll be using mine this weekend in the Sipsey.” 1:37:26 PM 2/26/07 “What's the no slip stuff?” 1:43:56 PM 2/26/07
