I sealed the outside of my Squall TarpTent and it has never leaked, CD.

Well crap, I guess I should seal the outside now. I am going to have a pound of slicone on this thing by the time I am done.

C'mon people, hikers should be able to improvise. Just pitch the damn thing inside out.

seal one side or the other Creek Dancer - it does not matter in terms of water proofness which side you seam seal - btw if you don't already know the trick dilute the silicone with low odor mineral spirits - it goes on thinner and so less weight - dust it with some talc when it reaches the "sticky" stage

Thanks HOI. Yes, I diluted the silicone with mineral spirits according to the directions from Henry Shires. It went on nicely with a one inch foam brush.

While you are in there sealing up, at the end put a dozen stripes of diluted silicone on the floor, too.

Any brand of silicone is fine as long as it is 100% silicone. Antimicrobial additives are fine and can only help for use with a tent.

I would have told you about the floor, but the picture of your ass sliding out the door in the middle of the night was just too appealing.

He seems to be worried about Henry Shires reputation and Nimblefoot's BS?

Cold, complete sentences would be a huge help in conversing w/ you. If you aren't getting much response it's because it's hard to figure out what you're talking about, not being in your head and all. Please elaborate, just alittle bit, in your posts.

Thanks Sass. I really had no clue.

Ok, so I called Tarptent to ask them about where to apply the seam seal. Their instructions don't say. He recommended that you apply the sealer to the outside along the ridge lines, apex, etc. because it's easier to apply to the outside. But he also said putting the sealer on the inside is fine too, which is good, because that's where I put it. I really don't know what I was thinking. My mind works in mysterious ways.

Anyhoo, I pitched the tent and sprayed the hose on it for awhile and had no leaks. So I think I am good.

LOL. Good one XL!

LOL...from Good Morning America

Sir, don't you think we should keep the PC with the VP on the QT. Otherwise the VC will find out and make him an MIA or POW and we will all be on KP.

Well just for Shts and Grns....started out 13-15th backpacking on the Long Cane Creek area in SC. Did some major mileage (apparently one of the other leaders decided he could take some "short cuts" (LOL)

Spent two lovely nights in the Tarptent....Saturday night it rained like a Cow P-ssing on a flat rock....we awoke dry as bugs in a barn.

Finished up my two weeks of hell with two nights at an OA conclave meeting in Savannah....went great...had one guy pick up my tarptent (in the bag) and go..."This your tarp? These bugs are gonna eat you alive."

LOL when you set it up and see the mesh...it made it ALL worth while...oh and by the way the fact that I had a tarp tent did not spare me the times I was out of the tent...the bugs still got their chomps in....
