Depending on how work comes out tomorrow, thinking about heading up Saturday morning and looking for Sougahoagdee Falls and possibly the upstream route into Parker Falls. Early morning arrival, potential overnighter. Paddlin would be ok too. Possible water route excursion to see Sougahoagdee?

The storms yesterday, today and tomorrow should get the waterfalls and creeks up a good bit.

Any takers?

It's raining here today, but I don't know if any of that will make it into the Sipsey watershed.

The last 2 days have been nothing but severe thuderstorms and flash flood warnings in N. Alabama and more on the way today. Hard to believe that Sipsey wouldn't reap some of that benefit.

I spent Wed night in Little Ugly Branch Canyon. Very relaxing.

Well I went anyways...
Camped at Brushy Lake, found a shortcut into Parker Falls, checked out Johnson's Cemetary for the first time and explored Brushy Creek about halfway upstream to Sougahoagdee from FS 245. Much better trail there than I expected. Also swung through Corinth Rec Area and checked out Looney's Ampitheater on my way home. Ended up being a pretty good weekend:

Nice pictures.I would have liked to have gone but had a busy week-end already planned. Was the access to Parker Falls fairly easy to find? Might consider go in from that direction if you could give a few land marks/directions off of 202/201.If the rain hold off,I might go up Friday or early Saturday.

Don't go 201/202. Drive around as if you were going to Thompson Creek TH but stop at a FS road on the right about a half mile before you get to Kinlock Falls. There's room for about 2-3 cars here off the road and last weekend there was an old white cooler sitting there at the turn off in the bushes. Trail easily visible off into the woods. 40 minutes car to Falls.

I think I know the pulloff. 1/2 mile before the Kinlock Falls pulloff or the bluff shelter pulloff? I think you mean the falls pulloff. I've always wondered what was there.

That's the one...almost exactly a half mile before the falls.

Nice Pic's
Next time, check out the Houston Rec Area, I'm planning on taking you on a paddle UP the Sipsey, also, check the parking at the Marina where the Sipsey crosses Highway 278, that's the best spot for a short overnighter launch.....Either way, a neat paddle.....

Paddle upstream eh? Easy for you to say with your improvised wind sail ;)

I'm game tho...sounds great. When you want to go?

Great pics, Another route into parker falls is to park on cranal road and insted of going down the trail walk to the end of the private road near there. At the end of this road is a old house. Behind the house is a draw that you can drop into and follow it to parker branch. Once you intersect with parker branch the canyon wall gets so you will have to get your feet wet but its a scenic trip. An overland trip is from the trail you will pop into a kinda clearing at about a half mile after making a right hand turn. There is a draw to your left about 300 yards, walk past it and then turn into the woods on top of the ridge. This ridge will finger into another draw that you will drop into and then back out onto the ridgetop to the right. This ridgetop will circle back to the left and go through a saddle and then back up. follow it to the dropoff into parker branch. You can get down here and will see the falls from this point.
